The Llactapata Temple is an Incan temple in Llactapata, Peru, where the Peruvian 0-8-4 was held for many years.
History[]
The Llactapata Temple was built over five hundred years ago by the Inca in Peru. In the 1940s, when several HYDRA members fled to Peru in order to escape justice, they performed experiments on the Tesseract's energy, creating a weapon that was so powerful, even they couldn't control it. The weapon lodged itself in the temple and melted the rock so that it would appear to have been in the rock for 1500 years.
In 2013, Peruvian scientists discovered the temple and began escavating it, when they noticed the weapon, and called S.H.I.E.L.D. for support. Agent Phil Coulson and his team arrived and began examining the device. While Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons used the D.W.A.R.F.s to examine the weapon, Grant Ward and Melinda May discovered that the Peruvian national police had arrived to take the weapon, and Coulson recognized the Comandante of the team, Camilla Reyes.
Reyes' and Coulson's teams were ambushed by Peruvian rebels, causing Ward to become rushed on getting their team to safety. He ran back into the temple, where Fitz and Simmons were still studying the weapon, and dislodged it from the temple, putting it in his backpack. Ward used the Thunderstick to knock down the rebels long enough for Reyes, Coulson, and their respective teams to flee to safety, leaving the temple behind.[1]
