Biography[]
Chinese 0-8-4[]
- "We were headed into the Hunan Province of China. A senior agent had called in an 0-8-4."
"An object of unknown origin. We’ve dealt with those before."
"He said the entire village had died trying to protect this one. Avery and I were just fresh out of the Academy." - ―Richard Lumley and Phil Coulson[src]
Linda Avery was recruited into a S.H.I.E.L.D. team a short time after finishing her studies at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy together with her partner Richard Lumley, as part of a second team sent to investigate an 0-8-4 in the Hunan Province of China as the initial response team failed to communicate.
Once arriving to China, Lumley and Avery found that the entire village and the first S.H.I.E.L.D. team had been killed, and their lead agent had died trying to protect the 0-8-4, an infant that was lying in his arms. The remaining members of the team returned to the United States, but as they began to be killed one by one, Avery faked the credentials of the deceased lead agent and delivered the baby to the Saint Agnes Orphanage, with an invisible protocol in the foster care system to make sure that she never stayed too long in one place and to ensure her safety. However, Avery was brutally murdered by Calvin Zabo, who was the child's father, and Lumley became the only survivor of the team.
Linda Avery's name was commemorated on the Wall of Valor as a memorial of her sacrifice on duty for S.H.I.E.L.D..[1]
