The Liberation of Basar was an a successful attempt by Kthara to send people to free her son from the Keeper that was holding him prisoner.
Background[]
During a war between demons and humans, Kthara's sons, including Basar, were attacked by humans. Although Basar easily slaughtered his attackers, Kthara's anger toward humans grew.[3] Basar was eventually trapped in a crypt in Colma, California, where he was held captive by a Keeper demon. Kthara's father, Marduk Kurios, married a girl named Victoria and had two children with her, Ana and Daimon.
Marduk kidnapped Ana, and while Daimon and Victoria fought back, Marduk marked Victoria for possession by Kthara.[4] This led to a fight for control between Victoria and Kthara, which drove Victoria crazy, causing Daimon to call for help, where Victoria was committed to Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health.[5]
Liberation[]

Louise Hastings getting interrupted by the escape
Wanting her son to be freed, Kthara summoned a Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health nurse named Keith Spivey, and convinced him to help. She drew an ideogram on the wall of her room, meaning "consumption," explaining that he would have to find that symbol in the crypt where Basar was being held. Kthara also recruited Hock and Liddle. Unbeknownst to Spivey, Kthara told Hock and Liddle to sacrifice Spivey so that Basar could possess him. Following Kthara's instructions, Spivey turned off the hospital's security cameras and broke Hock and Liddle out of Saint Teresa's while Kthara distracted Louise Hastings, who was busy writing a letter about another patient.

Spivey after being pushed into the casket
Steven, a security guard, tried to stop Spivey, but he got killed. Spivey stole a hospital van to drive to Colma, while Hastings discovered Steven's body and deduced that Kthara was responsible. Spivey, Hock, and Liddle arrived at the cemetery where Basar was kept prisoner and entered the crypt. As Spivey led to the patients to the Keeper's body, he found the ideogram on the Keeper's Skull. Hock pushed Spivey into the demon's casket, and Spivey yelled at him. The casket trapped Spivey, allowing Basar to possess him. Basar then killed Hock and Liddle, leaving the cemetery.[4]
Aftermath[]

Caretaker discovering Hock and Liddle's uniforms
The owner of the cemetery, Caretaker, discovered Hock and Liddle's remains and asked Ana Helstrom for help. Helstrom brought the Keeper's Skull to San Francisco with her, and Caretaker discovered that Hock and Liddle were from Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health. Helstrom left it behind while she returned to Portland to visit Daimon Helstrom, who had been investigating Spivey's escape, and Victoria Helstrom. Daimon paid for Steven's funeral expenses, feeling guilty about Kthara's actions.
Interrogating Victoria Helstrom about the escape led to Gabriella Rosetti learning the truth about demons existing.

Basar attacking Alex Tilden
Basar, having been freed, found a truck owned by Alex Tilden at a Roxxon Gas Station, and attacked Tilden,[4] causing him to be possessed by Magoth.[6] He started killing people, recruiting many demons, including Magoth, to help rescue Kthara from Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health.[2]
