- "The things you did won't define me. They'll affect me for sure, but only as much as I let them. Now all I can do is level up. Be better than you. Than Andre, than the world."
- ―Dagger to Nathan Bowen
Level Up is the tenth and final episode of the second season of the television series Cloak & Dagger, as well as the series finale.
Synopsis[]
In the action-packed season finale, Tyrone and Tandy head to the Loa dimension to stop the evil force threatening New Orleans. To finally put an end to it, they must come face to face with their own personal issues that have been holding them back. Meanwhile, Mayhem and Evita do their best to hold off the dangers in the real dimension.
Plot[]
Take on Me plays on the radio as three women rob a store. However, one of them and a police officer are transported to a stage by D'Spayre's trumpet playing. Cloak and Dagger stand over Deschaine's body. Bowen hears trumpet playing and tells Johnson that it's D'Spayre. Meanwhile, Mina Hess studies Mayhem using an MRI, however Hess suddenly disappears.
Johnson and Bowen meet with Evita Fusilier for help. Fusilier draws a Veve around Johnson which summons a portal to the Dark Dimension. She explains that they are safe as long as the candle is still lit. They approach the Roxxon Gas Station to find it all destroyed and the wayfinder broken, meaning they can't get to the mall to stop D'Spayre. Bowen sits down in the curb and says that she isn't a hero, but Johnson gives a speech telling her that she is. He then has her draw a veve. They are then transported to The Esplanade where they find that the windows are broken. Meanwhile, Fusilier works to keep the candle lit and Mayhem knocks out multiple spiritual entities that came to kill Fusilier.
At the record shop, Cloak and Dagger find that all of the records are gone. They enter a door to see that D'Spayre had collected many people through his trumpet playing. Bowen throws a Lightforce dagger at him, but D'Spayre sends her to a vision of her and her father. When Johnson teleports to D'Spayre, he blows his trumpet which causes Johnson to back away in pain. He is then teleported to a vision of himself if he never went on the run. Nathan tries to explain to Tandy that he never hit Melissa Bowen. Tandy doesn't back away though and says he never should've hit her. He then goes to grab Tandy, who slashes him with her dagger. He tells her she can't hurt him because he's already dead. Johnson resorts straight to punching his other self while the vision mocks him.
Johnson wakes up from the spell to find him and Dagger sitting in chairs at D'Spayre's performance. Dagger then forces herself out, but quickly goes back in. Nathan tells her she can't escape while the two Johnson's continue to fight. They yell their names to try to find each other. They both open doors and finally reunite, where they find D'Spayre talking to them. The duo decide to switch opponents. Meanwhile, Mayhem continues to fight the spirits until one of them lifts their mask revealing themselves as Dark Dimension Kenneth Fuchs. Dagger fights the other Johnson and Cloak fights Nathan. Cloak defeats Nathan by sticking up for Tandy while Tandy does the same for Johnson. However, D'Spayre stops Tandy and transports her back to Viking Motel, where she had lost hope. Cloak is transported to a room with cloaks where he has to fight Johnson again. Nathan walks into the room to talk to Dagger. She finally defeats him by sticking up for herself and her mother. She summons a Lightforce Sword and places it against Nathan's neck. He says she can't get rid of him, and she agrees before she slashes him multiple times causing him to disappear. Johnson uses the same tactic against himself. He moves the cloaks around the other Johnson until he disappears. Cloak and Dagger then wake up back at the stage.
Bowen throws a dagger which knocks the trumpet out of D'Spayre's hand. She then throws many daggers at the victims like her mother, Hess, and Mikayla Bell, who are in the audience. This dagger fills them with hope through Lightforce. Cloak summons Dagger through a portal and she impales D'Spayre through the heart with a Lightforce Sword. Johnson checks his despair and they find the record that he plays the most. They find the record containing the most pain which causes Deschaine to break down crying. Tandy then scrapes the record with her dagger, the two then jump back through the portal into the real world. They find Mayhem and Fusilier, who have defeated the entities. Dagger asks Mayhem for a favor, to clear Johnson's name.
Later, Johnson looks through the window of his house at his parents. Bowen helps her mother before leaving the house with luggage. Lia Dewan, in prison, picks up litter. Among this litter is a missing persons form. Fusilier draws a veve on Chantelle Fusilier's grave as a memorial. Francis Xavier Delgado finally cleans up his life. Mayhem hangs James Connors body in the police precinct, with a note saying he murdered Billy Johnson and Solomon cleans up his act, refusing to take an offer for a crime. On the bus to leave the station, Bowen is approached by Johnson, who sits with her. Bowen explains how she has to help other trafficking victims. Johnson joins her, calling back to earlier where he asks what the best way to hold hands is. Bowen replies with waffles. They then hold hands as the bus leaves New Orleans.
