The Landkreuzer[1] was a super-heavy tank used by Hydra during World War II.
History[]
This tank was one of the advanced weapons developed by Hydra, the special weapons division of the Nazi Schutzstaffel. It was more than three times larger than normal tanks of its time.
When the Hydra commander Johann Schmidt attacked Tønsberg, Norway in 1942, a Landkreuzer was part of his invasion force and was used to plough through a building before arriving at the Castle Rock Tower where it destroyed the front wall killing Jan in the process. It then positioned itself outside the church and once Schmidt had found the Tesseract, he had the Landkreuzer open fire on the rest of the village.
In 1943, a Landkreuzer was deployed to Azzano, Italy where it opened fire on Wehrmacht soldiers and wiped them all out. The Landkreuzer then turned it's attention on the soldiers of the 107th Infantry Regiment and fired on them. The survivors were taken prisoner by Hydra.
In 1944, Captain America led the Howling Commandos on a raid on a Hydra factory in Greece. A Landkreuzer was used in the defence but was destroyed when Captain America opened a hatch and threw a bag explosives inside.[2]
