"I understand now. I can see what she saw. So many planets. So much life destroyed every time a Celestial is born. Arishem used us and left us to die with each Emergence. We just wanted to survive."
―Kro to Thena[src]

Kro was the leader of the Deviants. Kro came to Earth thousands of years ago, but was trapped in ice for millennia, while the rest of his kind were exterminated by the Eternals. Due to glacial melting as a side effect of the impeding Emergence of Tiamut the Communicator, he and an isolated legion of Deviants were freed. Kro killed Ajak, gaining her power, and began hunting down the Eternals in a quest for power, eventually gaining a sapience never before experienced by a Deviant. Kro followed the Eternals as they tried to stop the Emergence, but was ultimately killed by Thena after failing to absorb her power.

Biography[]

Creation[]

Trapped on Earth[]

Kro was a Deviant, created by the Celestial, Arishem the Judge. Kro and a pack of Deviants were sent to Earth in ancient times, but ended up trapped and frozen in ice in Alaska.[1]

Hunting Eternals[]

Regaining Consciousness[]

Kro kills Ajak

Kro absorbs Ajak's powers and murders her

In 2024, as a result of the Blip, glacial melting caused Kro and his pack to defrost, and they roamed the ice sheets hunting for prey. Not long after waking up, Kro and his pack found and slaughtered a group of oil workers. They were discovered by the Eternal Ikaris, who brought Ajak to Alaska, betraying her and throwing her down onto the ice sheet. Kro was waiting at the entrance to his cave, and ambushed Ajak as she fought back against the pack of Deviants. Kro used his ability of power absorption to first murder, then steal the powers of Ajak, before dumping her corpse on the ice and vanishing into his cave.

Within the cave, the hound-like Kro underwent his first metamorphis, a result of taking the powers of an Eternal. It changed his biology and appearance, and as he rallied his pack to him with a roar, he transformed them too, giving them more fearsome forms. Kro and his pack then set out to hunt down the other Eternals.[1]

Invading London[]

"How?"
"I don't know!"
Sprite and Sersi[src]

Kro emerged from the lake in London and started to chase Sersi and Sprite, as well as Dane Whitman. In order to trick Kro, Sprite used her powers to create multiple illusions of her and Sersi, but Kro was able to identify the real ones. Kro almost succeeded in killing Sprite, but was stopped by Ikaris and his optical beams. Despite being harmed, he healed himself due to absorbing Ajak's healing powers. Even though Kro was stronger, he still was no match for Ikaris and probably only survived because of Ajak's regeneration, so he escaped without leaving a trace.[1]

Ambush at Druig's Compound[]

Gilgamesh killed by Kro

"I will kill you all for what you have done to my kind."
―Kro to Thena[src]

Kro later ordered the Deviants to attack Druig's Compound in the Amazons, creating an ambush. While the others were fighting the rest of the Eternals, Kro attacked Ikaris from behind, but before he could absorb Ikaris' powers and life, Gilgamesh attacked and started to fight him. Even though Gilgamesh was winning due to his super strength, Kro noticed Thena, who was suffering from Mahd Wy'ry. Kro lept away from Gilgamesh to get to Thena, but Gilgamesh jumped in front of her. Kro then bit Gilgamesh, absorbing a punch. Gilgamesh soon succumbed to his injuries and died.

Kro Humanoid

Now with the absorbed energy of two Eternals, Kro evolved into a humanoid and intelligent version of himself, contemplating himself and his existence, and now understanding the true purpose Arishem the Judge gave to him. He now sought vengeance for his kind being brutally butchered and killed, proclaiming the Eternals as murderers. Suddenly, Ikaris returned and show his beams at Kro, who ran away.[1]

Fight Against Thena[]

"Give me your hand... Ah it's a shame. You and I, we're just tools of a god, built to kill. Thena, remember."
"I remember."
―Kro and Thena[src]

Kro attempts to absorb Thena's power

Kro later followed to where Tiamut the Communicator was about to emerge and attacked Ikaris. Kro tried to absorb Ikaris' energy, but was prevented from doing so by Phastos, who despite fighting Ikaris, knew that Kro would become more powerful if he absorbed the power of one more Eternal. Kro showed the powers he took from Gilgamesh, goading Thena, but Makkari tried to stop him, running in circles around the Deviant. However, Kro was able to stop her and even tried to absorb her powers but was stopped by Phastos, who blasted him into a cave.

Kro is sliced by Thena

Kro is dismembered by Thena's cosmic daggers

Thena followed him, wanting to avenge Gilgamesh's death. They started to duel, but Thena began to be affected by Mahd Wy'ry, allowing Kro to lure her by imitating Gilgamesh's voice. He then trapped her in his tentacles and tried to absorb her energy too, but failed due to her remembering Gilgamesh's advice. She then manifested two cosmic daggers and sliced Kro up into pieces, effectively dismembering and instantly killing him, freeing Thena from his grasp.[1]

Personality[]

"I will kill you all for what you have done to my kind. You are not saviors, Eternals. You are murderers."
―Kro to Thena and Gilgamesh[src]

Prior to gaining sapience, Kro was little more than a monstrous beast, violent and destructive. After killing the Eternal Ajak and taking her power, Kro gained a desire of self preservation, healing himself during fights. When he gained full sapience after killing another Eternal, Gilgamesh, Kro became bitter, cold and furious at the Eternals for allowing the cycle of Celestial destruction to continue. He was cunning and manipulative towards Thena, taking advantage of her mental condition in an attempt to convince her that he was Gilgamesh. Kro despised the Celestials too, and wanted to destroy the Eternals to sabotage Arishem the Judge.

In his initial form, Kro was durable enough to survive multiple shots from Ajak's gun. After he absorbed the cosmic energies of two Eternals, Kro's body was made even more resistant to physical and energy damage, unlike an average Deviant. When the Eternals gathered at Druig's Compound, Kro was able to withstand multiple enhanced punches from Gilgamesh.
    • Superhuman Speed: Due to absorbing the cosmic energies of two Eternals, Kro could run and move at great superhuman speed, much faster than any normal Deviant.
    • Superhuman Agility: Due to absorbing the cosmic energies of two Eternals, Kro naturally possessed far greater agility, equilibrium, flexibility, dexterity, balance, and body coordination than Deviant. This was shown when Kro leaped over to a beaten Makkari and evaded Thena numerous times during their battle.
    • Superhuman Stamina: Kro advanced musculature was considerably more efficient than any normal human being.
    • Superhuman Reflexes: Kro could react and dodge objects traveling at high speeds, much quicker than any normal human being.

      • Elasticity: Kro has the unique ability to elongate his body and reach across a distance.
      • Tentacle Manifestation: Kro has the unique Deviant ability of generating tentacles from his body, most of the time from his spine and hands. The tendrils that Kro produces from his body are so strong that he can pick up tree stumps and overpower an Eternal physically.
    • Absorption:

      Kro absorbing Ajak's powers

As a basic ability of a Deviant, Kro can absorb the powers, abilities, and memories of those he kills, being able to take the powers of both Eternals Ajak and Gilgamesh.
      • Cosmic Energy Manipulation: Due to absorbing the cosmic energies of two Eternals, Kro is capable of using cosmic energy. He first exhibited this power by forcing his fellow Deviants to evolve by bestowing them with his own recently acquired cosmic energy.
        • Cosmic Healing:
          KroHeals1

Kro healing himself with cosmic energy

After killing Ajak, Kro absorbed her powers of healing, allowing him to quickly heal wounds caused by Ikaris, Gilgamesh and Thena.
        • Energy Exoskeleton: As a result of killing Gilgamesh, Kro absorbed his unique power of projecting a golden, cosmic energy-enhanced exoskeleton shielding his arms and fists, which enhances his strength and durability in combat.

Abilities[]

  • Master Combatant: Kro was a highly skilled combatant. Able to adapt on the fly to counter the powers of his opponents. He was able to use his tentacles in various ways to strike, restrain and even impale his opponents.
