"We're a team here, and hiding things from one another isn't gonna get us anywhere. I trust you, and I trust Matt. Be nice if that was a two-way street."
―Kirsten McDuffie to Cherry[src]

Kirsten McDuffie is a former Assistant District Attorney in New York City and a named partner at Murdock & McDuffie.

Biography[]

This is an in-depth biography of Kirsten McDuffie. For an abridged overview, see Marvel Database's article on the same character.

ADA of New York[]

"Hogarth, Chao & Benowitz."
"It's on my list for when I leave the DA's."
Foggy Nelson and Kirsten McDuffie[src]

Kirsten McDuffie served as an Assistant District Attorney in New York City, and befriended Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, and Karen Page. She also became friends with therapist Heather Glenn, and referred clients to Glenn when the need arose. McDuffie intended to leave the District Attorney's office and seek a career in private practice, and made a list of potential law firms she wished to join, one of which was Hogarth, Chao & Benowitz.[1]

Attack on Josie's Bar[]

"Well, you sound confident. What's your game plan?"
"I'll keep my strategy to myself, thank you very much."
"Mm-hmm. Fifty bucks says I can worm it out of you before that, eventually."
―Kirsten McDuffie and Foggy Nelson[src]

In late 2025, McDuffie attended NYPD Detective Cherry's retirement party at Josie's Bar, where she sat with Foggy Nelson. She asked Nelson if it was true that he had worked at a corporate firm before, and he informed her that he had worked at Hogarth, Chao & Benowitz. McDuffie questioned why Nelson worked out of a storefront office, and Nelson told her that it felt more real to him and that he liked most of the people he took on as clients. McDuffie then brought up Benny Cafaro, a criminal that had been caught stealing on camera that Nelson was representing, and referred to Cafaro as being dumb and an idiot. Nelson told McDuffie that he would get Cafaro's charges dropped as he had a strategy for it, to which McDuffie responded that she would bet him fifty dollars that she would get him to divulge his strategy. Nelson's phone then rang, and he excused himself so that he could answer it outside.

Not too long after, Nelson and two other patrons were gunned down by Bullseye, who was then attacked by Daredevil. As the pair crashed into the bar, McDuffie managed to escape outside along with several other patrons. Although McDuffie survived the incident, Nelson succumbed to his wounds and died.[1]

A Thriving Business[]

"Kirsten, what did I tell you to get you to come over from the DA's office?"
"You said that I was brilliant, which is true."
"That is true. What else?"
"You said we'd take on the hard cases."
Matt Murdock and Kirsten McDuffie[src]

Due to Foggy Nelson's death, the law firm of Nelson, Murdock & Page was dissolved while Karen Page relocated to San Francisco.[1] Matt Murdock then approached McDuffie and asked her if she wanted to form a private law practice with him, stating that she was brilliant and that together they would take on hard cases and focus on impossible odds.[2] McDuffie agreed and the two formed Murdock & McDuffie, a private law firm that operated out of a law office in Manhattan.

One year after Nelson's death, McDuffie went into the office early to pour coffee and check on Murdock, as Benjamin Poindexter's sentencing was to occur the next day. McDuffie mentioned Murdock's upcoming statement at the sentencing and then asked if he had heard from Page, and Murdock told her that he had not. She then began to tell him that she was there to speak with him when he needed, to which Murdock told her that he was appreciative of her efforts. The next day, McDuffie attended Poindexter's sentencing and watched as Murdock delivered his statement.[1]

McDuffie asks Murdock to meet Heather Glenn

McDuffie decided to set up her friend Heather Glenn with Murdock, and informed Glenn that Murdock was seeking therapy and if Glenn would be willing to meet with Murdock at Manhattanville Coffee. Despite Glenn having her own office, Glenn agreed to the coffeeshop visit due to their friendship. McDuffie then entered the conference room and asked Murdock if he would meet with Glenn at the coffee shop, claiming that Glenn was a prospective client who needed legal representation, and Murdock agreed.

McDuffie asks Matt Murdock about his date

While at the office, McDuffie noticed Murdock's private investigator Cherry come in, who was seated in the conference room. McDuffie was speaking to some of her associates when Murdock returned and lightly berated her for setting him up on a blind date while lying about a client meeting, calling it unethical, although McDuffie merely asked how the date went. Murdock claimed that the date was awful, but McDuffie replied that both Murdock and Glenn needed intimacy and that it was time for Murdock to find someone. She then alerted Murdock to Cherry's presence, referring to him as Murdock's hatchet man.[1]

Trial of Hector Ayala[]

"You can barely handle your current caseload. I'd have to sit second chair."
"A high-profile case like this is not the worst thing in the world."
"It's exactly the opposite of what this firm needs right now."
