- "I record history by the King's command. This scroll contains what I learned while researching the bewitching fox."
"Um... Then shouldn't you put this history in your history book?"
"This record will only confuse people. I don't think humanity is ready to handle it... so please keep the scroll." - ―Kim Bu-Sik and Sprite[src]
Kim Bu-Sik (Hanja: 金富軾; Korean: 김부식) is a historian during Korea's Goryeo period.
Biography[]
The Kumiho Attack[]
Kim Bu-Sik was ordered by King to collect and record Korea's historical data, traveling all over the country and recording his findings. In 1142, Kim attended a remote temple, as he heard the tales of Kumiho and wanted to investigate himself. Kim asked the high priest whether or not Kumiho was real, and he affirmed what Kim have heard, as he was hunting it for years. Suddenly, Kim witnessed the high priest being killed by Kumiho in horror, before his bodyguards and warrior monks confronted it. Kim then ran out of the temple to save himself and the scroll with all of his work.
Kim tried to outrun Kumiho, which followed him in the woods, before Kim was rescued by Sprite and Kingo. Sprite used her powers to make him invisible and protect him from the monsters, as Kim was shocked, thinking that Sprite used magic. Kingo attempted to attack Kumiho, but it suddenly vanished and avoided his attack, to Kingo's surprise. Kim then told Sprite and Kingo the story of Kumiho, a legendary nine-tailed fox that absorbs people's life force to gain an eternal life. Kumiho then appeared again and Kim witnessed Kingo being restrained by the monsters, before he pointed at Kumiho's bead that seemingly was it's energy source. Sprite managed to get closer to Kumiho and destroy the bead, forcing Kumiho to free Kingo and escape.
Being saved from the Kumiho's attack, Kim told Sprite that he was ordered to record a history and handed his scroll with all of his research to her. Sprite asked why he does not want to keep his research and Kim explained that humanity was not ready to know about such creatures roaming the earth, so he asked Sprite to keep the scroll. Kingo promised that they will make sure to keep the scroll safe, while Sprite told Kim that although Kumiho's existence should be a secret, he deserved another glimpse into history. Sprite showed Kim the history of Korea, all of its rulers and historical events, that he thoroughly recorded.[1]
