"What the hell are we doing here? I mean, I'm pretty sure tying him up like that qualifies as kidnapping."
Jen[src]

The Kidnapping of Karnak was the temporary detention of the Inhuman Karnak by a group of marijuana farmers led by Reno, who decided to restrain Karnak to prevent him from reporting their illegal activity to the authorities. However, Reno's associates Jen and Ted convinced him to release Karnak and let him work with them.

Background[]

"I need to find my King."
Karnak[src]

Due to his cousin Maximus having taken over the throne of Attilan, Karnak was forced to flee to Earth in order to avoid capture by the Attilan Royal Guard. Karnak was teleported on the Hawaiian island of Oahu and set out to find his cousin Gorgon, who had been sent to Earth earlier.[2] However, Karnak soon realized that he would be on his own and, while searching for his family, hardly fell from a hill, causing him to be wounded and to lose part of his powers.[3]

"You sure about that?"
Reno and Karnak[src]

Still struggling to find his way through the forests of Oahu, Karnak eventually stumbled upon an inhabited location and approached it, hoping to get some help. However, the place actually sheltered a marijuana farm managed by Reno. Upon seeing Karnak arriving, Reno drew his machete and threatened Karnak, stating that he had made a mistake. Karnak replied that he never made mistakes, only for him to be caught off guard by Ted, who put his own machete on Karnak's throat.

Reno and Ted tied up Karnak in the cabin before discussing about what they should do about him with Jen. Both Ted and Jen were in favor of letting Karnak go as he clearly was not a cop. However, Reno still feared that Karnak could report them to the authorities. He tried to interrogate Karnak about his Com-Link and the reason of his presence near the farm, but did not get much information.

While Karnak tried to use his powers to find a way out of his situation, Reno suggested to kill Karnak to make sure he would no longer be a threat, which Jen and Ted disagreed. Karnak then attempted to push a table, hoping to have the cabin collapse on his captors, but it did not work, leaving Reno and the others puzzled regarding what he had done. They then decided to keep discussing outside.

Jen returned into the cabin some time later and tended to Karnak's wounds. She then insisted on knowing a little more about him, prompting Karnak to explain the origin of his face tattoos. Later, the farmers decided to put Karnak's fate to a vote. As he was put in minority, Reno returned into the cabin, and while Karnak expected to be killed, Reno released him and told him that they would keep him with them at the farm as long as he made himself useful, warning that he would closely watch him.[1]

Aftermath[]

"I don't know. I don't think I trust him."
"You didn't trust me or Jen at first."
"Yeah. But I needed you both to pull this off."
"An extra set of hands isn't bad."
Reno and Ted[src]

As it was agreed, Karnak remained with Jen and the others at the marijuana farm, where he helped them to improve their yields thanks to his great intelligence. Karnak also grew closer to Jen, who tried to have him feel at ease with them. This led to them becoming lovers, making Jen the first woman to ever truly win Karkak's affection, but it also caused Reno to become incredibly jealous and distrustful towards both of them. In the end, Reno would murder Ted[4] and try to assassinate both Karnak and Jen.[5]
