For Agatha Harkness' first kidnapping of Billy Maximoff, see Kidnapping of Billy and Tommy Maximoff |
- "Oh. So that arrest was maybe more of a kidnapping."
- ―Agatha Harkness[src]
The Kidnapping of Billy Maximoff was an unknowing kidnapping by Agatha Harkness, who while trapped under an illusion with the identity of Agnes O'Connor, believed she was arresting a teenage boy who broke into her house.
Background[]
- "Wait, Agatha is still in Westview?"
"Last I heard, she was under some kind of spell. Acting like a normal resident. Sourdough starters, potlucks, and whatnot." - ―Billy Maximoff and Ralph Bohner[src]
In November 2023,[3] Wanda Maximoff entered the town of Westview, New Jersey and used her chaos magic to create a new Vision and transformed Westview into an idyllic, sitcom town by erecting a Hex around the town. A witch named Agatha Harkness sensed Maximoff's chaos magic and realized that she was the fabled Scarlet Witch, and thus flew into the Hex in order to understand and extract Maximoff's magic for her own.[4] Harkness located a man named Ralph Bohner and moved into his house, enthralling him into acting as her husband[5][6] while she took on the name of Agnes O'Connor.[7][1] Maximoff used her chaos magic to impregnate herself with two sons, whom she swiftly gave birth to, and named the sons Tommy and Billy Maximoff.[8]
In order to grasp the truth behind the Westview Anomaly, Harkness kidnapped Billy and Tommy and forced Maximoff to revisit her past.[4] This triggered the Battle of Westview, which ended with Maximoff embracing her identity and powers as Scarlet Witch and absorbing all of Harkness' magic for herself. Scarlet Witch then placed a spell on Harkness, causing her to forget her true identity and assume the persona of Agnes O'Connor. Scarlet Witch, realizing that the right thing to do would be to free the citizens of Westview, dispelled her Hex, despite knowing this would result in the deletion of Vision and their two sons.[9]
However, Billy managed to save his soul as well as the soul of his brother; while Tommy's soul remained in the aether,[10] Billy transferred his soul into the recently deceased body of William Kaplan, although it rendered him amnesiac. Billy lived for three years as William Kaplan, but remembering Tommy's name, sought to find him. Kaplan studied the Westview Anomaly and sought out Bohner, who informed him about Billy and Tommy and that Harkness was still residing in his old house in Westview. Upon looking up Harkness online and discovering that she was the only known survivor of the Witches' Road, along with the realization that he was Billy Maximoff, Kaplan drove to Bohner's house in Westview to speak with her.[6]
Kidnapping[]
- "Where are we going?"
"Just walk!"
"Okay! Come on, I do not wanna go back in the closet." - ―Billy Maximoff and Agnes O'Connor[src]
Parking outside of her house, Billy Maximoff climbed up onto the roof of Agatha Harkness' house and broke in. Rummaging through her belongings, he located Agatha Harkness' Locket, but accidentally knocked down a lamp, which caused Harkness, who was enthralled to act as Agnes O'Connor, to rush to the room and yell at him. Maximoff then left through the window and made his way back onto the ground while Harkness yelled at him to stop. Maximoff was then stopped by Sharon Davis, which allowed for Harkness to apprehend him. Harkness took him back inside her house,[6] although she believed she was a police detective and that they were currently inside the Westview Police Station.[1]
Maximoff then took out his spell book and uttered a release spell,[6] which, in conjunction with Rio Vidal's machinations,[10] allowed Harkness to start breaking free from her spell. However, before she could be liberated entirely, "O'Connor" told Maximoff that she was going to be holding him in a jail cell overnight. As she was actually in her house, Harkness instead put duct tape over Maximoff's mouth and arms and forced him into her closet, leaving him there all night.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "The Witches' Road. I want you to take me there. Please?"
"The Witches' Road doesn't exist."
"You're lying."
"Am I?" - ―Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness[src]
Agatha Harkness, with her memories and true identity restored, allowed the teenage boy that she accidentally kidnapped for the night to go free, even telling him that he could keep the house. However, he instead asked her to bring him to the Witches' Road. Stunned at the mention of the Road, Harkness told him that the Road wasn't real, although he refused to believe it. She inquired why he needed the Road, and he replied that he wished to acquire more magical power. Intrigued, Harkness asked him who he was.[2] He told her that his name was William Kaplan,[6] but Harkness could not hear him, nor could she read his lips as a sigil formed over his mouth. She then asked him to repeat what he said,[6] and this time he stated that he was Billy Maximoff, embracing his true identity.[6] However, the sigil activated once more, preventing Harkness from hearing him. Harkness, who wished to regain her own magical abilities, agreed to bring Maximoff onto the Road and worked him to recruit Lilia Calderu, Jennifer Kale and Alice Wu-Gulliver to form a new coven. A doorway then appeared to the Witches' Road in the basement of Harkness' house, and the newfound coven embarked on their journey.[2]
