Karachi is the capital city of Sindh and the most populated city in Pakistan. Formerly a part of India, the city became part of Pakistan as a result of the Partition.

Karachi was a city in India, where Yusuf Khan's family had lived for generations.[1] In 1898, Karachi Station was established as a railway station for its citizens.[2]

In 1947, following deliberations with Viceroy Louis Mountbatten and Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the British decided to divide India into two nations – India and Pakistan, with Karachi becoming a part of the newly formed Pakistani territory. During the Partition, many Indian Muslims migrated to Karachi using trains and arrived at Karachi Station. They then settled in a neighborhood that came to be known as Old Town.[2]

Sana, along with her father Hasan, successfully relocated to Karachi in Pakistan from India as a result of the Partition, although her mother Aisha did not make the trip. Hasan informed Sana that her mother was a Djinn, as he believed in the mythology that had been crafted after the Clandestines arrived in Asia, which Sana had no issues with as she dismissed it as mere genetics.[2] Sana later married, took the surname Ali and had a daughter named Muneeba[3] and a son named Kakoo.[2]
While raising her daughter in a house in the affluent neighborhood of Clifton, Ali's constant sharing of theories regarding Aisha being a Djinn led to Muneeba being shunned by her neighbors.[2] In her adult life, Muneeba met and eventually married Yusuf Khan, with whom she had a son named Aamir. However, Ali did not attend her daughter's wedding. The Khan family left Karachi shortly after and relocated to New Jersey in the United States of America.[4] Ali continued to remain in Karachi, where her son lived with his children Owais and Zainab. Living in Clifton, the family often went to parties or had lunch at boat clubs.[2]

In 2025, Sana Ali decided to send Aisha's bangle, that she had kept from her arrival to Karachi, to Muneeba Khan.[3] However, after Kamala Khan took the bangle for herself, Ali conversed with her granddaughter through video calling.[1] When the two shared a mutual cognitive vision, Ali urged Kamala to bring herself and Muneeba to Karachi.[4]
