Cain Marko was a mutant known as Juggernaut who was banished to the Void and served Cassandra Nova as one of her henchmen. Since his helmet could nullify psychic abilities and could be used to subdue Nova, Juggernaut was targeted by the Resistance when they attacked Nova's lair. In the ensuing fight, Juggernaut's feet were cut off by X-23's adamantium claws, causing him to lose balance and fall to the ground. Juggernaut was then decapitated by X-23, who successfully removed his helmet and gave it to Deadpool and Wolverine.
Biography[]
Sent to the Void[]
Juggernaut was a mutant who possessed great physical strength and a special helmet capable of blocking out and nullifying psychic powers. At some point in time, Juggernaut was apprehended by the Time Variance Authority, who banished him to the Void.[2]
Henchman to Cassandra Nova[]
Joining Cassandra Nova[]
Now stranded in the Void, Juggernaut eventually encountered Cassandra Nova, a powerful mutant with free rein over the Void. In exchange for ensuring his own survival, Juggernaut pledged his allegiances to Nova, joining her roster of henchmen at a makeshift lair within the corpse of Giant-Man. Juggernaut's presence amongst Nova's henchmen was later noted by Resistance member Human Torch, who explicitly mentioned him to Deadpool and Wolverine while vulgarly commenting about Nova.[2]
Meeting Deadpool and Wolverine[]
One day, Juggernaut was residing at Cassandra Nova's lair when a hunting party led by Pyro returned with Human Torch, Deadpool and Wolverine as captives. Juggernaut was quickly identified by Deadpool as the former pulled him and Wolverine up from the ground, referring to him as "this year's Juggernaut," though Juggernaut remarked that they should keep their voices down as Nova didn't like the chatter.
As Nova emerged from the lair's inner sanctum to greet her new prisoners, Juggernaut stood off to the side and listened as Deadpool cited Human Torch's comments about Nova out loud, leading Nova to violently skin Human Torch alive with her powers. After tensions broke out between Nova and Deadpool and Wolverine when the former refused to help them leave the Void, Juggernaut retreated deeper into the lair when Alioth appeared, though Deadpool and Wolverine managed to narrowly escape using a Sentinel leg.[2]
Assault on Cassandra Nova's Lair[]
Later, Juggernaut was posted in the lair's lookout tower when he spotted Ol' Betsy approaching the compound. From the vehicle, Blade fired a rocket at the lair's main gate, which prompted Juggernaut to call out the projectile as it destroyed the gate, allowing the Resistance to drive into the compound.
Juggernaut quickly left his post and gathered with the other henchmen in the courtyard as they confronted the intruding Resistance members. After a brief standoff, the two factions charged head-on into a fierce battle, though Juggernaut held a defensive position in front of the entrance to Cassandra Nova's inner sanctum. As the Resistance members drew closer to the inner sanctum, Juggernaut took a hit to the head by one of Gambit's attacks, leaving him briefly stunned.
Juggernaut quickly recovered from the attack and continued to fight the Resistance with the other remaining henchmen. Juggernaut was then attacked by X-23, who lept onto him and repeatedly stabbed him in the shoulders using her adamantium claws, though Juggernaut retaliated by throwing her off. Juggernaut charged towards X-23, who dodged his incoming attack and sliced his ankles, causing him great pain.
Juggernaut turned to face X-23, though as he tried to step forward, he quickly discovered that his feet had been severed from the rest of his legs. Juggernaut screamed out in pain and collapsed onto his knees, where he could only watch in horror as X-23 pounced at him and swiftly decapitated him.[2]
Legacy[]
X-23 recovered Juggernaut's helmet from his corpse, which remained upright while the Resistance continued to battle the remnants of Cassandra Nova's Henchmen. Juggernaut's helmet was then delivered to Deadpool and Wolverine to impair Cassandra Nova, though after she was shot by Pyro, Wolverine discarded the helmet to let Nova heal as he knew that Charles Xavier would not let him stand there and watch Nova die.[2]
Personality[]
Juggernaut was a tactiturn member of Cassandra Nova's Henchmen who used his immense strength and physique to create an intimidating presence. He often maintained a look of confidence on his face and rarely expressed any other emotions, though he showcased a hint of fear when announcing Blade's attack on the lair's main gate and when he was visciously attacked and maimed by X-23.
