Under the threat of losing his family, Getty was forced by HYDRA to work for Cybertek. He was Ian Quinn's researcher on Gravitonium. After HYDRA's fall, Getty approached Tony Caine so he would fake his death and give him a new life.[1]

One day as Getty was sitting near to the beach, he was approached by Tony Caine and Alphonso Mackenzie of S.H.I.E.L.D.. At first, Getty refused to talk but Mackenzie promised him that by helping them he would pay for his sins. Mackenzie asked him what had happened to Cybertek's Gravitonium, so Getty told him that it had been transported to a facility in the Pacific, but had sunk during a thunderstorm.[1]
