John William Anglin is the brother of Clarence Anglin. He is a former inmate and escapee of Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary.

Anglin attempts to escape Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary
John Anglin was imprisoned on Alcatraz Island in Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary, along with his brother Clarence. John and Clarence met Frank Morris, and they planned an escape attempt together. They left using the ventilation ducts and found Morris in a utility corridor. Clarence and John ensured they had everything, but Morris shushed them.
Anglin resumes his escape attempt
They reached the outside of the prison and brought a boat to shore, but were suddenly interrupted by the appearance of strange person. The stranger approached them and started talking to Morris as the Anglins backed off, but got interested when they believed the strange to be connected with their escape boat. The stranger referred to Morris as Casey, so John asked why, since they had been calling him Frank. Morris insisted that Frank was his name and that he did not know the stranger. The three resumed pulling the boat to shore, but got confused as the stranger suddenly disappeared. However, alarms started blaring, so they kept moving.
Anglin successfully escapes Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary
They successfully reached the shore of California as the sun rose. John and Clarence laughed together while Morris staggered a few steps away from the boat. The same stranger then appeared and recruited Morris for a mission which required him to leave the Anglins.[2]

- In real life, John and Clarence Anglin were brothers and bank robbers who stole from multiple banks before ultimately getting arrested and receiving a thirty-five year sentence in prison. They attempted to escape multiple times, ultimately resulting in their transfer to Alcatraz Federal Penitentiary. Their June 1962 Alcatraz escape attempt yielded an unknown result as their bodies, along with that of Frank Morris, was never found.
