"I got you covered, Pete."
―Jason Quill to Peter Quill[src]

Jason Quill is the father of Meredith Quill and the grandfather of Peter Quill. In 1988, he was present at the hospital when his daughter passed away from cancer. Carrying his grandson Peter outside of the room, Quill returned to the room where his children and wife mourned over their loss. However, unbeknownst to Quill, Peter ran outside, where he was kidnapped by aliens. Quill continued to reside in Missouri and in 2014 witnessed the Expansion. Twelve years later, Quill was at home when he was reunited with his grandson, who had returned to see him.

In 1988, he was present at the hospital by Meredith's side as she was dying of cancer. He left Meredith's side to bring Peter into the room so Meredith could say her final goodbye. He then placed her final gift to Peter in his backpack. When Meredith flat-lined, he took Peter out of the room before rushing back to Meredith's side. That same night, Peter vanished suddenly, leaving him without a grandson.[3] Jason's wife later passed away.[4]

By 2026, thirty-eight years after his grandson's abduction, Jason had remarried. One day, while he was sitting at the table in his backyard of his house, his grandson Peter Quill returned and was guided to him. Jason stood up, recognizing Peter immediately, and the two embraced as Jason grew teary-eyed.

Sometime after Peter had settled in, the two had breakfast together, with Jason reading the newspaper on Kevin Bacon's abduction. Peter grumbled about being asked to mow a neighbor's lawn when her son was fully capable of doing it and simply sat on the porch watching him, to which Jason agreed, alluding to having similar issues with the same neighbor.[1]

Trivia[]

  • In the comics, J'son of Spartax was the name of the father of Peter Quill.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • James Gunn has revealed that Guardians of the Galaxy originally ended with Jason looking up to the stars after seeing a photograph of a young Meredith and Peter: "He has this photograph of Meredith (Peter Quill's mother) and Peter as a little boy and he looks up at the stars and we go up to the stars and it was really sweet. It means that he must have seen Quill getting abducted at the end of that day and is still waiting for him to return but it was freaking sad so we took it out."[6]
