Hosting with Betty Brant[]
- "Spider-Man mania is sweeping the school. How can you show your spider spirit?"
- ―Jason Ionello[src]
Jason Ionello was a student at the Midtown School of Science and Technology and also co-hosted the school's news channel, Midtown News, with Betty Brant. In September 2016, as Midtown's homecoming dance was approaching, Ionello reminded students to buy tickets to the event, leading him to ask Brant if she had a date. An awkward on-screen moment then ensued when Brant told Ionello that she already did.
During a physical education class, Ionello sat with Liz Toomes, Seymour O'Reilly and Brant, listening to his friends commenting on the recent robbery and how Spider-Man had intervened. Like everyone else, Ionello was surprised to hear Ned Leeds claiming that Peter Parker knew Spider-Man.
Ionello later reported the victory of Midtown's Academic Decathlon team in Washington, D.C., as well as their rescue by Spider-Man. Ionello then commented that a "Spider-Man-mania" was overrunning the school and invited the students to find creative ways to express their admiration for the hero.
At the homecoming dance, Ionello hung out with Brant, Toomes, and O'Reilly for some time, before hanging with his other friends.[1]
After the homecoming dance, Ionello and Brant informed the students about a man being found in the school's bus yard, webbed to a bus with Spider-Man's webbing. They also presented a news segment in which various people across the school, including Roger Harrington, Michelle Jones and Leeds, were asked about their insights regarding Spider-Man's true identity.[6]
Snapped and Blipped[]
- "Those of us who blipped away came back the same age. But our classmates that didn't blip grew five years older."
"Yeah, like my little brother is now older than me." - ―Betty Brant and Jason Ionello[src]
In May 2018, Ionello and Betty Brant, who were mid broadcast, suddenly disintegrated into dust.
Five years later, they both suddenly reappeared. He, along with Brant, were shocked and confused to find another student running their news program.[7] They were then informed of what happened and how five years had passed. Distressed and feeling sickened by the news, Ionello threw up.[5]
Discussing The Snap and Blip[]
- "Thanks to Kenneth Lim and Vihaan Ramamurthy for their help with that touching video tribute."
- ―Jason Ionello[src]
In June 2024, Ionello thanked Kenneth Lim and Vihaan Ramamurthy for putting together a tribute video that honored Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, Vision, and Steve Rogers. Brant then went on to thank the Avengers as a whole for their role in saving the world.
They then discussed the Snap and the Blip. Ionello explained that he was shocked to find that his little brother was now older than him, and that he would be forced to restart his school year from scratch, despite having already taken his midterm.
Brant told him that it was just basic math for why his brother was older now. Ionello then asked about the Avengers' whereabouts and whether or not they were still functional.[5]
Personality[]
- "No swearing."
"Yeah, it's like the last day of school, we're good." - ―Betty Brant and Jason Ionello[src]
Ionello is a relaxed person, with a lack of care for the rules or events around him. He put very little effort into his work in Midtown News, and did not see an issue with swearing on camera, despite the school rules. He is not aware of boundaries, as he asked Betty Brant to Homecoming while on the air.
