"My husband's on a business trip. Tell him that I love him and not to come back here, ever."
―Isabel Matsueda to Wanda Maximoff[src]

Isabel Matsueda is a resident of Westview. In the Westview Anomaly, she became known as Beverly, a member of the city committee.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Isabel Matsueda was born on October 12, 1990. When she became an adult, Matsueda got married to a man and together they resided in Westview, New Jersey. In 2018, she survived the Snap, and on June 18, 2018 she got a new driver's license.[2] Shortly after the Blip in 2023, Matsueda's husband left on a business trip, leaving her by herself.[3]

Westview Anomaly[]

Enthralled by Wanda Maximoff[]

Some time after her husband left, Matsueda was enthralled by Wanda Maximoff and became part of the hex. Along with the other citizens of Westview, they were brainwashed to take part in a fictional sitcom reality, with Matsueda taking the part of Beverly.[4]

Committee Meeting[]

"The Rotary Club is finishing the stage set-up as we speak. They've given the gazebo a fresh coat of paint and will be installing the final decorations all through the town square. And if you recognize the antique footlights, it's because they're from my store."
―Beverly[src]

As the day of the Westview Talent Show approached, Dottie Jones, leader of the committee, organizes a meeting to plan the event, making the snacks for the meeting at her house, where Beverly accompanies her along with other housewives, taking care of food dish.

At the meeting in the Westview Pool Club, Beverly spoke about the preparations for the talent show, also promoting her store. But she forgot the chairs, something that Jones noticed and bothered her by clarifying that this mistake could cost her a future entry into the committee. At this, Beverly sat down sadly, where her neighbor Agnes offered her some alcohol to deal with what had just happened, which she subtly accepted.[1]

Westview Talent Show[]

"Is that how mirrors work?"
"Shut up, Bev."
―Beverly and Dottie[src]

Later, Beverly participated in the Westview Talent Show dressed as a horse. After her participation, Beverly sat down with Dottie and Phil Jones to watch the Wanda Maximoff and Vision's magic show. Although like the other Westview residents, she felt confused by the beginning of the couple's show, in the end Beverly ended up liking the event and applauded when they were awarded by Jones as the funniest comedy of the year.[1]

While shopping downtown, Beverly watched as Agatha Harkness awoke Sarah Proctor, whom she was shopping with as Dottie Jones. Harkness then freed the others, including Matsueda, from their characters. Matsueda and the other Westview residents confronted Wanda Maximoff, begging to be released. Matsueda told Maximoff to tell her husband that she loved him and to never return to the city. Continuing begging to be released, Maximoff felt overwhelmed by the situation and unintentionally choked Matsueda, along with the other residents with her powers.

Anti-Wanda Sentiments

Maximoff then finally freed them and opened up the the hex, so they could leave. Matsueda tried to leave the hex like the other residents, but she only managed to hide away from the battle. This was because Maximoff realized that her children and her husband were disintegrating, so stopped opening the barrier. After the battle and the fall of the hex, Matsueda met with the other citizens of Westview and resented Maximoff as she fled the town.[3]
