The Iron Man Armor: Mark XXXIX, codenamed Gemini and Starboost, was Tony Stark's thirty-ninth Iron Man suit and was designed to specialize in sub-orbital space travel. It was a part of the Iron Legion and was destroyed during the Clean Slate Protocol.

History[]

Gemini Norco

The Starboost Armor at the Roxxon Norco

The Starboost/Gemini armor was made by Tony Stark after the Battle of New York. As part of the Iron Legion, the Starboost Armor was used during the Battle on the Norco, against Aldrich Killian and his Extremis Soldiers. At the end of the battle, the remaining suits that were not destroyed by Extremis Soldiers were destroyed when Stark activated the Clean Slate Protocol, including the Mark XXXIX.[3]

Capabilities[]

The Starboost armor is used for sub-orbital space travel. As such, it has an incredibly durable exoskeleton. Its thrusters are capable of reaching great speeds at high altitudes. It is equipped with a high power "concussion" cannon, most likely shot through the chest RT.[3]

Behind the Scenes[]

  • According to the Mark XXXIX's designer Josh Nizzi, "The deep-space suit has small boosters all over the body, which control movement in zero gravity. Sections of the heat-resistant tiles protect the suit during re-entry and make for a nice contrasting material. The gold-plated visor used by many astronauts works perfectly with the Iron Man face. Early versions of the deep-space suit had very large detachable booster rockets; these got refined into a removable integrated backpack. We referenced materials and colors used in NASA vehicles and suits."[4]
