Iron Man 2 - Phil Coulson: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a comic book published by Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited.
Synopsis[]
Coulson and a rookie S.H.I.E.L.D. agent are drawn into a terror plot perpetrated by the insidious organization, the Ten Rings.
Plot[]
Just off the Farm[]
While overseeing the detention of a rogue airman, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson gets a call from Director Nick Fury, who comments on the press conference in which Tony Stark announced he was Iron Man, and announces that he will pay Stark a visit at his house.
Fury assigns Coulson to supervise new agent Hendricks during his first mission, a requirement needed per S.H.I.E.L.D. standard protocols. Coulson offhandedly punches out the airman when he tries to escape and assures Fury that he is ready despite his recent incident with Obadiah Stane.
Hendricks is transported blindfolded to an alley, where he is thrown out of a moving vehicle and meets Coulson. He begins to brief Hendricks about their assignment, a seemingly standard intel-gathering mission. Right before starting, Coulson is informed that a Ten Rings cell is operative in the vicinity.
Coulson and Hendricks abandon their operation to intercept the terrorists using a pair of S.H.I.E.L.D. Motorcycles, until Coulson is shot and seemingly killed by heavy gunfire. Hendricks crashes his motorcycle into the van, allowing him to jump inside and knock out the Ten Rings gunmen. However, when Hendricks checks outside the van, he is unable to locate Coulson's body.
Coulson then approaches Hendricks and reveals that the whole mission was staged, as a way to know how a new agent would act in a real-life scenario under fire. After evaluating Hendricks's performance, Coulson congratulates and welcomes him into S.H.I.E.L.D..
