Tony Stark became the CEO of Stark Industries alongside his assistant, Pepper Potts. He developed new technology for the United States military and worked with his friend, Lieutenant Colonel Jim Rhodes. spent months building a metal armor and flew it past Pacific Park. Stark continued his work on the suit and told Potts and Rhodes about it, although he kept it a secret from the public. He took the armor for another test, flying it through the desert to make sure it worked perfectly.[2]
Pepper Potts learned that someone had replicated an earlier version of Stark's armor, and then was attacked by that person, Iron Monger. Stark heard about the attack and flew to Stark Industries Headquarters, where he attacked Iron Monger and the two began to fight. Iron Monger claimed that Stark had created the greatest weapon ever in the Iron Man armor, which angered Stark as he intended for the suit to help people. The two crashed through the floor into a room filled with pipes, breaking the pipes. Stark struggled to see through the steam released by the pipes.
He looked around for Iron Monger, who suddenly grabbed Stark and pushed him through a concrete wall. They reached the highway, where Iron Monger picked up a car and prepared to throw it at Stark. However, Stark fired a unibeam at Iron Monger, knocking him to the ground and causing him to drop the car. However, Iron Monger then stood up again and threw the car at Stark, trapping him underneath it. Iron Monger prepared to kill Stark, but a fuel truck suddenly crashed into him, causing an explosion that freed Stark from under the car. Stark returned to Stark Industries Headquarters to assess and fix the damage caused by the fight, when Iron Monger appeared making one last attempt at killing Stark. Stark blasted Iron Monger off of him, causing him to fall into a hole that had opened in the ceiling as he died. Stark returned to Potts and Jim Rhodes, assuring himself that he was ready for future battles.[2]

Tony Stark is a confident individual who believes he is ready to face whatever challenge and does not feel a need to plan his battles ahead of time. He valued his friendships enough to be willing to let them in on his secret identity as Iron Man while working on the armor and testing it. Despite his willingness to sell technology to the United States military, Stark got offended at the notion that his armor was a weapon as he had a desire to help people with his technology.
