"The day I put on this suit, I vowed nobody would use my tech as a weapon ever again. And I made sure of it."
―Iron Man[src]

This is an in-depth biography of Iron Man/Iso-8 Power Source. For an abridged overview, see Marvel Database's article on the same character.

Early Years as Iron Man[]

"A.I.M. fell apart after what happened with Killian."
―Iron Man[src]

Tony Stark was a weapons builder who quit once seeing the horrors of his creations. He owned suits of armor which gave him the name of Iron Man. He had to fight his old friend and partner, Obadiah Stane, who built his own suit of armor. Stark later had a run-in with A.I.M. which was a rival technology company. However, Iron Man defeated their leader, Aldrich Killian, causing A.I.M. to disappear soon after.[2]

Return of A.I.M.[]

A.I.M. Fighters[]

"Oh, y'know, typical Tuesday. Armed thugs trying to wreck Stark Industries, steal my latest tech..."
―Iron Man to Pepper Potts[src]

One day, a group of enemies attacked Stark Industries. Iron Man donned his Mark XLII armor and defended. J.A.R.V.I.S. soon reported that the enemies were in possession of A.I.M. technology, which Stark did not believe due to them falling apart after Aldrich Killian's death. Iron Man fought valiantly then took off.

Pepper Potts called to ask what was happening. Stark explained that it was a typical Tuesday and armed thugs were trying to steal his tech. Potts jokingly guessed he would be home for lunch. Stark told her he would be back for dinner. Potts reminded him to be careful. Iron Man then proceeded to fly around Santa Monica and take down many A.I.M. Drones in his way. However, the drones were surrounded by EMPs, which Stark was careful not to hit. He then landed in an air base.

Suddenly, Iron Man's armor started experiencing malfunctions. J.A.R.V.I.S. told him he could not repair because the required materials were back at Tony Stark's Mansion. Stark asked about other alternatives and J.A.R.V.I.S. said the Mark III armor was available with a few upgrades.

With the Mark III armor, Stark took on the air base and was able to attack many drones. However, F-22 Raptors started attacking, which Stark was able to dodge. Suddenly, powerful A.I.M. soldiers attacked in mech-suits. Luckily, much like the others, Iron Man disposed of them. In another round of defenses, missiles were launched which could deal great damage, but Iron Man got through them. Once out of the air base, Iron Man was met by a Hammer Drone, which could take Stark down.[2]

Fighting Crimson Dynamo[]

"Running away? I thought I was the one who was supposed to have lost his nerve."
―Iron Man to Crimson Dynamo[src]

Iron Man found A.I.M. once again and battled their attacks as he flew through the city. He defeated some battle drones as well until something suddenly flew in front. It turned out to be a man in a suit. The man started scolding Stark, calling himself the superior version of Iron Man. The two fought hard, but the enemy eventually got overwhelmed and flew away, humoring Stark. J.A.R.V.I.S. checked Interpol and revealed that the man was named Crimson Dynamo, who was a former Russian officer who stole the government's prototype armor. Iron Man then dealt with Crimson Dynamo's allies.[2]

Reemergence of Extremis Soldiers[]

"I'm burning a lot of power. No time to head home, but I bet I can use some of the fuel cells the A.I.M. goons dropped to recharge my Arc Reactor."
―Tony Stark[src]

Back in California, Iron Man flew through the city, same as before as he defended his home against many A.I.M. Drones and missiles. Along the way, he gathered up Proton Fields which allowed him to have a force-field. He then returned to the air base and got attacked by more F-22 Raptors which he evaded until flying Extremis Soldiers arrived. Stark fought them and blew up some tanks.

When finished, Iron Man talked to J.A.R.V.I.S. and Pepper Potts about how he was using a lot of fuel. Instead of going home, he opted to use fuel cells that the defeated A.I.M. soldiers dropped. Meanwhile, Potts told Stark how she had been calibrating autopilot on his suit. Therefore, she wanted Stark to practice some more maneuvers so the autopilot can learn and adapt.[2]

Journey to Space[]

"Where are all these guys coming from?"
―Tony Stark[src]

At a Stark Industries base, Iron Man went back to work defending against A.I.M. and their forces. As he fought, a Wormhole opened up ahead. Stark entered it, bringing him into space. He flew through the space station until he reached asteroids where A.I.M. soldiers greeted him. He then fought a Hammer Drone. Once finished, Stark went back to Pepper Potts, complaining that the agents were in the city. J.A.R.V.I.S. interrupted, saying Stark needed to help people in the city.[2]

The Living Weapon[]

"He didn't strike me as a zealot. That fight felt personal."
―Iron Man[src]

Iron Man returned to Santa Monica where he attacked the air base once again, taking care of the A.I.M. Drones. He then fought Extremis Soldiers before leaving the airbase and flying through the city. There, operatives attacked him but they were all killed until a new threat flew past Iron Man, greeting him. Stark saw the armor and talked about the unoriginality of it until the man replied saying he was the new generation.

Stark then realized the man was not wearing armor, but it was a part of himself. Stark was soon attacked by the man's powerful blasts as he tried to evade. The man then summoned EMPs, which Iron Man was careful not to destroy before attacking the enemy. The two fought more until the man gave up, telling Stark he had something special planned and it were to be a going-away present. Once the enemy left, Stark questioned why it seemed like the man knew him personally. Stark kept going and fought some more enhanced Extremis Soldiers.[2]

Extremis[]

"Crimson Dynamo's a gun for hire. But that mystery man seemed to have personal stake in this. If he's not bankrolling it, I bet he knows who is."
―Iron Man[src]

Iron Man soon went back to his routine of fighting the many A.I.M. Drones. Once done, Pepper Potts told Stark that the damage caused the suit to have to be recalibrated again. She also notified him that she figured out A.I.M. wanted the refined Extremis that Stark Industries had been working on.

Later, Potts found out A.I.M. upgraded their weapons and advised Stark do the same. Once done, Stark went back out only to come face to face with Crimson Dynamo again. The two argued about their countries and Crimson Dynamo claimed his country betrayed everyone and thus he did not steal the Crimson Dynamo Armor. Eventually, Stark defeated Dynamo, who flew away. Stark then wondered who the leader of A.I.M. was. He figured the man who was the living weapon would know.[2]

M.O.D.O.K. Version 1[]

"Pepper, I won't be home for dinner after all. Stark spreading the news... I'm headed for Manhattan."
―Iron Man to Pepper Potts[src]

Stark continued to go on more missions, but concluded he had to go on offense: A.I.M. had many allies, so Stark needed some of his own. With this mindset, he went on another mission where he came face to face with a big-headed man in a chair. A confused Stark wanted to ask questions, but the man said all Stark needed to know is that his name was M.O.D.O.K. The enemy shot lightning at Stark, who evaded them and attacked.

Once Stark defeated M.O.D.O.K., the man stated that he believed his form was strong enough, but clearly he needed to evolve more. When he left, J.A.R.V.I.S. broke bad news that while the fight was happening, A.I.M. stole classified intel on the Extremis project. Stark knew only half the data was there, meaning the other half was at Stark Tower. Stark left for Manhattan.[2]

New York[]

"Tony, they're running scared."
Pepper Potts[src]

Iron Man fought A.I.M. in New York and got word from Pepper Potts that Iron Patriot had been helping. He wanted Stark to share combat intel with him. Additionally, A.I.M. operatives started becoming scared of Stark and were turning themselves in.[2]

The Living Laser[]

"Look, surrender and I'll see what I can do to help you."
―Iron Man to Living Laser[src]

Back in California, Stark went back to work, only for the Living Laser to show up in front of him. Parks gave Stark an ultimatum: stay out of his way while getting Extremis, or die. Stark did not take this lightly and started asking Parks if A.I.M. knew how to get him back to normal. Parks claimed they made his something when he was nothing. Iron Man gave Parks a chance, saying if he surrendered, Stark could try to help him.

The two fought, but eventually Living Laser flew away. A worried Stark was informed by J.A.R.V.I.S. that Parks had transmitted a part of his consciousness to Stark's fiber-optic network, allowing him to pull enough Extremis to stabilize the Extremis Soldiers. Once Stark returned home, he decided to bring out his missile armor.[2]

Enemy from the Past[]

"So this guy wants to kill me because he hates his father and himself. This day just gets better and better."
―Iron Man[src]

Stark went on yet another mission to which Pepper Potts warned him that A.I.M. was getting used to his armor and he had to get another weapon. Meanwhile, Crimson Dynamo messaged Stark, telling him that he was disappointed because Stark was a so-called genius, but he has not figured out what was happening yet.

Later, Iron Man was met by the living weapon again. Stark asked who he was and the man finally answered, revealing himself to be Ezekiel Stane, Obadiah Stane's son. Stark claimed that Obadiah tried to kill him to which Ezekiel said he did not care about as Obadiah was a bad father. Instead, he wanted Stark Industries as he believed he should have inherited it. Stark soon defeated Stane, who retreated.[2]

Living Laser Round Two[]

"I need to find out who the brains of the operation is. Well, who's in charge. I think M.O.D.O.K. wins the brains contest hands down."
―Iron Man[src]

Living Laser messaged Stark, telling him that there is a disadvantage about having a body, which is that it can die. Stark then went out and eventually found a frustrated Living Laser. The two bickered, with Stark not giving up on his offer of helping Living Laser, who refused it. Once Parks retreated, Stark made quick work to see if Parks messed with anything like last time, which Pepper Potts confirmed she saw no signs of. Stark talked with Potts about the leader of A.I.M., which Stark believed to be M.O.D.O.K.[2]

M.O.D.O.K. 2.0[]

"You don't get the privilege of dying... until you've watched your world burn around you."
M.O.D.O.K. to Iron Man[src]

Stark soon got a message from none other than M.O.D.O.K., who talked about how Stark ruined Ezekiel Stane's life, but A.I.M. has become stronger and will defeat Stark. Eventually, M.O.D.O.K. ambushed Stark and claimed to be a new person and they were meeting for the first time as he was not upgraded. Stark simply scolded M.O.D.O.K.'s appearance. The two then fought, with Stark taking care of M.O.D.O.K. The latter backed off, saying that the fight was only a taste and once him and Stane finish their plan, their victory would be great.

Stark said that it seemed like M.O.D.O.K. had personal hate against Stark as well and sarcastically asked if he was Obadiah Stane's son as well. M.O.D.O.K. responded saying that he had evolved from what he once was, prompting Stark to ask why he had to send all of the men after him instead of just doing it himself. The mad man said that Stark does not deserve to die until he watched his whole life burn around him. Once M.O.D.O.K. left, Stark realized that Living Laser had previously set a trojan horse, meaning their servers were down and hacked from a source originating in China. Stark set a course for the country.[2]

Bout with Crimson Dynamo[]

"Finally. I was getting tired of these guys getting away. Let's make it the start of a trend."
―Iron Man[src]

On a mission, Stark was met by Crimson Dynamo once again, who claimed that once he got Extremis, he would use it to seize power in Russia. However, Stark refuted that, saying that Dynamo was an idiot if he really believed A.I.M, would share Extremis with him and they only ent him to slow Stark down. Dynamo ignored the first dig, saying that they are smart for sending him to slow Stark down.

The two fought once again, but this time, Dynamo was overwhelmed and exploded, allowing Stark to remark that he should make their deaths a trend. J.A.R.V.I.S. then contacted Stark, saying that Ezekiel Stane and M.O.D.O.K. were attempting to gain full control of Stark's systems. If they do so, they would get access to every civilian and military computer in the country.[2]

A Dangerous Threat[]

"Stane, I'm warning you: This is a line you do not want to cross."
―Iron Man to Ezekiel Stane[src]

Later, Iron Man got a message from Living Laser, who gloated about his victories over Stark. Parks' empty threats soon came to fruition as he met Stark once again on a mission. Parks talked about how Ezekiel Stane found a way for Parks to restore his body, and all he needed to do was bring Stark's corpse back. Stark tried to argue that A.I.M. would kill Parks as well, which the latter refused to believe.

The two fought valiantly, but Stark eventually was able to blow Parks up. While Stark flew away, he wanted to believe Parks was dead, but knew his luck would mean the opposite. He then called Pepper Potts to ask if she had a lead on Stane or M.O.D.O.K. However, Stark was met with Stane on the other line, who had kidnapped Potts and threatened to kill her.[2]

Saving Potts[]

"Who dies first. Tony or Pepper? Either one's fine with me! I can be merciful, Stark. Let me kill you quickly and you won't have to see what I do to your girlfriend."
Ezekiel Stane[src]

Ezekiel Stane proceeded to send Stark a message, saying that he would kill both Stark and Pepper Potts, but because he is merciful, he would kill Stark first so he did not see Potts die. Stark called James Rhodes and told him to get Potts while Stark fought Stane. An angry Stark was then met by Stane, who explained all of the torturing he would do to Potts, prompting Stark to strike Stane, starting a battle.

The two fought for a great length until Stark's power was too much for Stane, causing him to explode into pieces. Potts then called Stark, saying tht Rhodes got her out while Stane was distracted. However, Potts said that Stane liked to talk, and explained that M.O.D.O.K. was out for all Stark tech. Stark was not worried as he had failsafes, but Potts explained that M.O.D.O.K. was actually going to transfer his consciousness into the network. Therefore, it would seem as though Stark Industries tried to take over the world, leading A.I.M. to fill the void once the dust settled.[2]

Defeating M.O.D.O.K.[]

"So what do we do now?"
"Start over. Rebuild. A new network... and maybe a new name. How does 'Stark Resilient' sound to you?"
Pepper Potts and Iron Man[src]

Knowing what he had to do, Stark went after M.O.D.O.K. The enemy scolded Stark, saying he was going to die, but a confused Stark asked who M.O.D.O.K. even was. This prompted M.O.D.O.K. to call Stark an idiot, saying that Extremis was only one path to immortality. Before Stark had destroyed his body previously, the man had his consciousness uploaded.

Stark then realized that M.O.D.O.K. was in fact Aldrich Killian. M.O.D.O.K. explained that he left his human origins behind and he was now the future. The two fought once again, but Stark seemingly defeated M.O.D.O.K., until the latter said that he had already uploaded his consciousness to Stark's network. Unbeknownst to M.O.D.O.K., this is exactly what Stark wanted. He explained that he vowed that nobody ever use him as a weapon again and therefore, he made sure he could destroy his Stark tech.

M.O.D.O.K. started computing error messages. As he struggled, he asked why Stark would destroy his life's work. Stark simply alluded that he had more life to build. As Stark networks shut down, so did M.O.D.O.K. as he burst into flames. A disappointed Pepper Potts asked if there was really no other way. Stark said there was not, but they would rebuild as Stark Resilient. Potts agreed and said that Stark better be home for dinner.[2]
