The Infinity War was the galaxy-wide conflict for the Infinity Stones. The conflict began when Thanos initiated his plan obtain the stones to complete his quest for the extermination of half of all life in the universe. However, the Illuminati, led by Doctor Strange and Professor X, stopped his threat before he could perform the Snap.

Background[]

Doctor Strange founded the Illuminati, a team composed of the world's greatest protectors to defend Earth from major universal threats and to make the difficult decisions when no one else could, recruiting Professor X, Mister Fantastic, Captain Marvel, Captain Carter and Black Bolt in the process.

Meanwhile, the Titan warlord Thanos started a campaign of his own to retrieve the Infinity Stones so he could put them into his Infinity Gauntlet and eradicate half life in the galaxy so he could bring balance and order to the universe.

To stop him, the Illuminati banded together, but Strange arrogantly tried to find a way in the Darkhold to defeat Thanos by dreamwalking. However, Strange's decision ended up causing an incursion between two realities, destroying one of them.[1]

War[]

Battle of Titan[]

The Illuminati eventually tracked Thanos down to Titan, his desolate homeworld, and fought him for the fate of the universe with the Book of Vishanti. Thanos was ultimately impaled with his own Double-Edged Sword, killing him and preventing his planned genocide from being carried out.

Doctor Strange, who had confessed his usage of the Darkhold and the destruction he had inadvertently caused in his attempt to stop Thanos, was deemed a danger to the Multiverse, despite how much it hurt them doing so, the Illuminati had no other choice than to execute Strange, who willingly accepted his fate as a reluctant Black Bolt killed him with a Sonic Scream, pulverizing Strange in a matter of seconds.[1]

Aftermath[]

Following the war's end, the Illuminati returned victorious to Earth. However, not wanting to reveal what truly happened with Doctor Strange, the Illuminati made the hard decision to lie to the world by claiming that Strange gave his life to stop Thanos. This led the Earth's population to mourn and praise Strange for his supposed heroism, building him a memorial statue and an establishing a museum in his memory at New York City. To fill Strange's place within the team, Karl Mordo was invited by the Illuminati to join their ranks, an offer Mordo accepted.[1]
