The Infiltration into the Sy'gyl Research Base was a Starforce mission taken to steal the plans for an Axiom Cannon from the Nova Empire.

Background[]

As the Kree continued to wage war against the Skrulls, the war they fought against Xandar started draining resources. Due to this, the Kree started considering ending the war against the Xandar so that they could focus on the war. The Supreme Intelligence informed Yon-Rogg of the pending decision, and instructed him to have Starforce infiltrate the Xandarian-controlled Sy'gyl to receive plans for a weapon from a defector so that the Kree could maintain the upper hand during peace. Meanwhile, the Skrulls heard about the plans to steal the plans and sent two Skrulls to stop them and get the plans themselves.[1]

Event[]

As Starforce landed on Sy'gyl, they started moving toward the Nar'dath mountain region while Sun-Val stayed behind and worked on repairing the ship following a firefight which occurred on the trip to the planet. Vers entered the base while Yon-Rogg and Bron-Char went to deal with a group of approaching Nova Corpsmen. Meanwhile, Sun-Val was attacked by a Skrull, who killed and replaced her.

Vers came across Peer Kaal, who explained that the weapon they were attempting to steal was horrible and would destroy planets, and that she was hoping that giving the weapon to the Kree as well as the Nova Corps would lead to peace. Kaal gave Vers the plans for the weapon and got attacked by a Xandarian soldier, but the bunker was then hit by a Stealth Bomb and Kaal was killed. Minn-Erva reunited with Korath and Att-Lass on the surface, and the three returned to the freighter to regroup, finding Sun-Val's dead body along the way.

Vers was found by Rhomann Dey, who helped her move despite her injury and temporarily stopped the bleeding. They were attacked by a Xandarian, but once Vers defeated it with a photon blast, they realized that it was a Skrull. As Dey and Vers neared the ship, Dey revealed that the two of them were chosen for the mission since they were the least likely on their respective teams to kill without question. They reunited with Yon-Rogg, Bron-Char, and Sun-Val. Yon-Rogg dismissed Dey and the four returned to the freighter, where Minn-Erva realized that Sun-Val was a Skrull and killed her before the Skrull could kill Vers and steal the plans.[1]

Aftermath[]

Starforce left Sy'gyl using the autopilot on their freighter, and Vers struggled with her injury. Yon-Rogg told Vers that she would be going to the med-bay as soon as they returned to Hala with the plans. Dey's words started to make Vers question herself,[1] and she eventually learned that she was a human named Carol Danvers.[2]
