Before the Illuminati could vote to decide the fate of Doctor Strange, the building was attacked by Scarlet Witch who was using the body of her alternate self. The Illuminati, but Professor X and Baron Mordo, decided to postpone the voting and went to confront the Scarlet Witch. Meanwhile, Ultron Sentries were confronting the Scarlet Witch, failing in the process. The headquarters' personnel was evacuated except Christine Palmer who stayed to try break America Chávez free from her cell. As Scarlet Witch got closer to them, she was stopped by Captain Carter, Black Bolt, Captain Marvel and Mister Fantastic, with the latter trying to rationalize with her, As she remained hostile, she used her chaos magic to erase Black Bolt's mouth and turn Mr. Fantastic into rubber strings, before fighting Captain Carter and Captain Marvel at the same time. However, Scarlet Witch managed to slain Captain Carter splitting her in two with her own shield, and later fought against Captain Marvel before overpowering her, causing an energy blast which broke the glass ceiling and caused both of them to fall to the ground, where Scarlet Witch used a statue to crash Captain Marvel.
After killing most of the Illuminati, Maximoff headed to the room where America Chavez was and prepared to kill Christine Palmer, but Professor X stopped her and got inside her mind before she could blast him, there he encountered Wanda Maximoff trapped in her own subconscious and tried to break her free, but Scarlet Witch overpowered both of them and physically killed Professor X snapping his neck.
Realizing America Chávez had escape with Christine Palmer and Doctor Strange, Maximoff chased them to underground levels of the building, where they entered into the Gap Junction.[1]
Behind the Scenes[]
- One of the statues at the Illuminati Headquarters is patterned after Xena, the titular character of Xena: Warrior Princess, which starred Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actress Lucy Lawless and was produced by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi. Raimi credited producer Richie Palmer as the one who came up with the idea in the film's audio commentary.[2]
