- "I believe that things that are supposed to happen always find a way to happen. Sometimes they make sense, sometimes they don't. And sometimes they really, really hurt. But, it's okay, because those things put us on the path to becoming who we're meant to be. And this is who I'm meant to be."
- ―Spider-Man to Doctor Strange
If This Be My Destiny... is the tenth and final episode of the first season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.
Synopsis[]
Peter's internship takes a dark turn with the arrival of an unexpected visitor.
Plot[]
During the science project presentations, Pearl Pangan is worried that Peter Parker is absent but Nico Minoru assures her that he just needs a few more minutes. Spider-Man stops the Scorpions from stealing cars, while Harry Osborn reminds him that he is running late for school, and once he finishes, his diorama gets accidentally broken by a man whom he asked to hold it. Minoru buys him some time by prolonging her own presentation and Parker manages to arrive just in time for their presentation with Pangan and Emma. Pangan is stunned as she sees their diorama ruined but Emma suddenly manages to turn things around and net them an A- grade.
At Oscorp Tower, Amadeus Cho is bragging about his GPA and mocks Parker over his lack of achievements, but he does not pay much mind, seeing the news report about Spider-Man's heroics. Norman Osborn visits the internship group and congratulates them with their projects coming together, although Jeanne Foucault finds it suspicious as Osborn did not seem to pay attention before. To Carla Connors' surprise, Osborn brings them to a secure facility where their equipment was transferred to and revealed that Oscorp had been working on the Project Monolith, aimed at creating an interstellar gateway.

Osborn reveals that the internship group's projects were all secretly for the Project Monolith; Asha's star maps, Foucault's quantum tunneling algorithms, and Cho helped developing the Magnetic Generator to power it by Parker and Connors' designs. Connors tells the others that she was not aware of this, asking Osborn for an explanation, and he says that in light of the Avengers-related incidents that involved instant space traversal, the Project Monolith would bring forth the evolution that humanity needs. Connors points at potential risks and Foucault says that they did not consent to participating, but Osborn assures them that the project's success would benefit them all. He then orders Bentley Wittman to launch the Project Monolith Gateway for a demonstration and open a wormhole to some empty corner of space, although Asha warns him that the maps have not been vetted properly yet.
But before Wittman proceeds, an Inter-Dimensional Portal opens instead and Doctor Strange shows up to put a stop to Osborn's project, as it poses a threat to the whole world. Parker recognizes Strange from the Midtown High School incident and Osborn calls him out for being an actual threat, dismissing his words, although Strange denies any involvement in any kind of school destruction. Osborn orders the security to neutralize Strange and Wittman opens the wormhole to outer space, however, to Osborn's shock, the wormhole allows a Symbiote to emerge from it.

As the Symbiote causes a havoc at the facility and fights Strange, Parker is shocked that the same creature that leveled Midtown High School appeared again. While the Oscorp staff evacuates, Spider-Man suits up and rescues Wittman and Osborn, helping Strange fighting the Symbiote. Spider-Man asks Strange to distract the Symbiote and buy him some time while he fixes the gateway to send it back where it came from, although the Symbiote proves to be a serious threat. Strange attempts to use the Time Stone to transport the Symbiote away, but it tampers with the Eye of Agamotto, so the two accidentally travel to the past timeline, during an orientation at Midtown High School.

Strange realizes where they are and tries to restrain the Symbiote, while it damages the school and threatens the past Minoru, while the past Parker defends her. While they fight, an Oscorp spider infused with Spider-Man's DNA comes through the portal and bites the past Parker, retroactively giving him his powers. Strange returns the Symbiote to their timeline and Spider-Man finishes fixing the gateway, opening a new wormhole to Klyntar, although the Symbiote then calls for its brethren at its homeworld. Spider-Man and Strange work together to prevent the full-scale invasion and push all Symbiotes back, and Spider-Man destroys the gateway to stop the Symbiotes for good.
Oscorp becomes the center of the controversy in the wake of the Project Monolith scandal and Parker decides that he will not continue with the internship. Harry tells him that Osborn likely still wants to help Spider-Man, but after all the lies and secrets, Parker cannot bring himself to trust Osborn again. Minoru then suggests the two to start their own company to help young geniuses all over to realize their potential without the fear of being exploited by the likes of Osborn. Harry takes her up on the idea and says that with all the influence and resources at his disposal, he can make it happen.

Spider-Man finds Strange at the sealed off Midtown High School, and Strange comes to a full realization that the school's destruction was the result of his inability to stop the Symbiote. Although Spider-Man notes that nobody got seriously hurt that day, but Strange is still concerned about all the lives that got altered because of the incident. Spider-Man says that his life was altered as well and remarks that the things that are destined to happen find the way to happen regardless, but they also make people who they are meant to be. Strange praises Spider-Man's wisdom and prepares to leave, but Spider-Man asks him if he is capable of seeing the future and what he must be preparing for. Strange replies that even if he could, he would not be able to say, but assures Spider-Man that no matter what is coming, he is ready for it.
Osborn looks through the Project Monolith wreckage and finds a loose piece of the Symbiote that piques his interest. Harry creates the Worldwide Engineering Brigade and sends recruitment emails to the potential candidates; Asha is excited to be chosen, while Cho dismisses it as he has been officially employed at Oscorp. Foucault, who is actually the vigilante and Daredevil's partner known as Finesse, also receives the email. Daredevil suggests that she accepts and keeps an eye on Harry, which Finesse does not argue with since she already accepted Oscorp internship to spy on Osborn for him. Tombstone also receives the email, telling his mother about it, but he is preoccupied with running the 110th Street Gang, while the Diox-3 exposure slowly affects his body.

Returning home, Minoru uses her amulet to perform a ritual and summon her mother from the realm of the dead. Otto Octavius, while being incarcerated, makes a sketch of the mechanical tentacles at his prison cell. May Parker pays a visit to Richard Parker at jail, who asks her how his son is doing. Spider-Man takes Strange's word and decides that he is capable of handling whatever comes next, fully accepting his role of being New York City's friendly neighborhood hero.
