I Am Groot is an American web animated series of shorts, based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name. The series is set between the ending and the post-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It is the twentieth television series and the second animated series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series is produced by Marvel Studios and was released on Disney+.
The first season is the fourteenth installment of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was released on August 10, 2022.
The second season is the fourth installment of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was released on September 6, 2023.
Synopsis[]
Season One[]
The series of shorts follows Baby Groot's glory days growing up, and getting into trouble, among the stars.[1]
Season Two[]
The troublemaking twig returns to mischief in the second season of I Am Groot. This time, Baby Groot finds himself exploring the universe and beyond aboard the Guardians' spaceships, coming face-to-face—or nose-to-nose—with new and colorful creatures and environments.[2]

On December 10, 2020, during Disney's 2020 Investor Day, Kevin Feige announced that a series of shorts featuring Groot, along with several new and unusual characters, was in development for Disney+.[3]
On April 28, 2021, James Gunn revealed that the series would be animated.[4]
On August 11, 2021, Brad Winderbaum revealed that the series would feature a photo-realistic animation style.[5]
On November 12, 2021, during Disney+ Day 2021, it was announced that Kirsten Lepore would direct the first season of the series.[6] That same day, A.C. Bradley revealed that Ryan Little had joined the series' writing team.[7]
On December 16, 2021, Disney+ posted a video on Twitter advertising what is coming to the service in 2022 and it revealed that the series would premiere in 2022.[8]
On March 28, 2022, it was reported that Vin Diesel had recently recorded dialogue for the series.[9] That same day, it was reported that the series may premiere in September.[10]
On April 30, 2022, it was reported that the working title of the series was "Lone Pine".[11]
On June 5, 2022, it was announced that the series would premiere on August 10.[12] That same day, James Gunn said that the series would not necessarily be a "part of the Guardians saga"[13] and that he "would think" that the shorts were "canon to themselves".[14]
On July 22, 2022, at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, it was announced that the first season of the series would be released on August 10.[15] It was also announced that a second season of the series was in development.[16]
On July 26, 2022, it was revealed that Daniele Luppi had composed the series' score.[17]
On July 28, 2022, Brad Winderbaum revealed the series is set between the ending and the post-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.[18]
On August 6, 2023, it was announced that the second season of the series would be released on September 6.[19]
