Doctor Robert Bruce Banner, M.D., Ph.D., is a scientist whose experiments with gamma radiation caused him to transform into Hulk. Once he returned to Earth in the aftermath of the Zombie Apocalypse, Banner joined a small group of survivors to try and find a solution to end the plague. Later, when the few survivors of the group were trying to leave the Camp Lehigh with a Quadjet, Banner decided to stay behind and turned into Hulk to fight a horde of zombies and a zombified Wanda Maximoff.
Biography[]
Zombie Apocalypse[]
Return to Earth[]
In 2018, Hulk returned to Earth via Bifrost Bridge and crashed through the roof of the New York Sanctum in New York City, creating a massive crater in the building's staircase. Banner, reverted to normal, tried to warn the building's inhabitants Doctor Strange and Wong that Thanos was coming, but found the Sanctum deserted, aside from the Cloak of Levitation.[2]
Attack on Greenwich Village[]
Obtaining clothes from the New York Sanctum, Banner went outside to find the streets of New York City deserted. His confusion was short-lived with the arrival of Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian. Banner tried to summon Hulk, but found that Hulk refused to emerge. Maw began to proclaim Banner's eventual death, but he and Obsidian were soon ambushed by Doctor Strange, Wong, and Tony Stark. Banner was initially relieved at the three's arrival, but he was soon horrified to see them murdering Maw and Obsidian.
The dust settled to reveal that Strange, Wong, and Stark were zombies, and they had transformed Maw and Obsidian into zombies, too. As Stark prepared to blast Banner, the Cloak of Levitation arrived and tripped him up. Banner tried to run away, but was cornered by Wong. However, the Cloak intervened again, pulling Wong away, and severing his head via the portal. Banner then got restrained by Maw and was about to get devoured, but was saved by a swarm of ants, commanded by Wasp, who decapitated Stark and had a giant ant eat his head, much to Banner's disgust.
Wasp ordered Banner to flee with her ants, and when he asked her who she was, she responded by saying that she was among all that was left. Just then, Spider-Man swung over and grabbed Banner. As Banner begged the young superhero not to eat him, Spider-Man tried to reassure him as they swung over to the resistance's base.[2]
Traveling to Camp Lehigh[]
Back in their base, Peter Parker showed Banner his So You Wanna Survive the Zombie Apocalypse orientation video, but they were interrupted by Okoye. She introduced herself to Banner, who remarked that she had picked an interesting time to visit America, but she explained that with her king's absence, she had to intervene. She also explained that the team had received a beacon over the wires.[2]
Learning the Truth[]
After traveling to Camp Lehigh, Banner, Okoye, Peter Parker, Bucky Barnes, and Kurt Goreshter were met by Vision and Scott Lang. Exploring the facility, Banner discovered they weren't the first visitors to come to Camp Lehigh and Vision expressed his distress in wishing they hadn't come to which Banner responded by asking what the camp was, only to find out from T'Challa what Vision was doing.
Vision explained to Banner and the other that due to Wanda Maximoff being zombified and rejecting the Mind Stone treatment he had been keeping her there because he couldn't bear the thought of killing her. Right after this discovery, Maximoff revealed herself to have been free due to Barnes having shot her cell and her using magic to open it. She then proceeded to eat Goreshter alive.[2]
Escaping Camp Lehigh[]
Banner convinced Vision to help them leave, and the latter blasted the roof open to help them escape. However, Okoye was telekinetically stopped by the zombified Wanda Maximoff and was zombified. Bucky Barnes then used his time to buy Banner and the others some time, telling them to run as he attempted to shoot Maximoff. Maximoff simply used her powers to throw Barnes away and went after Banner, attempting to infect him via a bite to his arm. However, Hulk briefly emerged, hardening his arm and saving Banner.
Banner, seeing that they clearly wouldn't be able to escape without a fight, gave Peter Parker the Mind Stone before running over to the zombies. Banner then ran straight into the horde, forcing Hulk to completely come out and engage Maximoff in battle, buying Parker, Scott Lang, and T'Challa enough time to escape.[2]
