Biography[]
Avengers Initiative[]
On the Run[]
While on the run, Bruce Banner reunited with Betty Ross and infiltrated Culver University as a pizza delivery man from Stanley's Pizza Parlor. Banner was hiding in a lab when S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Natasha Romanoff approached Ross. Romanoff, intending on protecting Banner from whoever was trying to kill the candidates of the Avengers Initiative, took Banner into her custody and ran into the overpass where General Thaddeus Ross and his men arrived.[2]
Murdered by Yellowjacket[]
- "No. No, no, no. Bruce. But he can't die. He can't die. He can't..."
- ―Betty Ross[src]
In order to protect Banner, Natasha Romanoff told Thaddeus Ross and his men to stand down. However, Yellowjacket shot himself into Banner's shoulder and caused him to undergo his transformation. Hulk then started to attack the soldiers who opened fire at him, with Betty Ross running to try to stop her father. However, Romanoff stopped Betty to get her to safety as Yellowjacket put a Pym Particle Disc on Hulk's heart causing it to grow bigger than his body. This caused Hulk's body to swell up as it exploded and killed him instantly, shocking everyone.[2]
Personality[]
Banner was a kind person who thought of others first, warning Natasha Romanoff to stay away from the Hulk. He approached Romanoff awkwardly when they first met and was willing to help.
Hulk was a being of rage, who got angry when Banner was injured and started brutally attacking the people he thought responsible without remorse.

Behind the Scenes[]
- What If... The World Lost Its Mightiest Heroes? takes place during the same time period The Incredible Hulk took place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Bruce Banner's likeness is based on Mark Ruffalo instead of Edward Norton, who played the role in The Incredible Hulk before being recast by Ruffalo from The Avengers onwards. Head writer A.C. Bradley joked early on about possibly bringing back Norton to voice Hulk if Ruffalo was unavailable, but was told that Ruffalo had already signed on to reprise his role in What If...?.[3]
