In this time, Stark encountered King Azzuri, who supplied the Allied Powers with Vibranium, which Stark used to create a shield. Stark worked alongside Captain America and his best friend Bucky Barnes, both of which went missing during the war, with Stark hearing rumors of the latter being captured by the Soviet Union.

After the war, Stark and Carter founded S.H.I.E.L.D., a peacekeeping organization, where they would employ and work with Hank Pym, Bill Foster, and Wendy Lawson on various scientific projects. Stark also had a son, Tony, who Stark would be absent from frequently throughout his childhood.[2]

Assembling a Team[]

"With that kind of firepower, I don't know that there's a person on Earth who can stop him."
"Not one person working alone, but a team, made up of the best our little planet has to offer."
―Howard Stark and Peggy Carter[src]

When an Peter Quill landed on Earth, S.H.I.E.L.D. learned that he had brought destruction to multiple solar systems. Stark worried that no one would be able to stop Quill, but Peggy Carter informed him of her idea to form a team of enhanced individuals.

Included on Carter's list was former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Hank Pym. Stark called Pym, who was still upset at him, and informed Pym of the situation. Despite their differences, Pym agreed to join the fight, and Stark greeted him along with Bill Foster and King T'Chaka at the base. Winter Soldier was sent to assist the team, and Carter discussed him being Bucky Barnes with Stark, who felt that Barnes no longer existed. The team were then taken to Wendy Lawson, who joined the team as they headed for Coney Island to apprehend Quill.[2]

The team listened to Thor explain the Ego's Expansion, revealing that a celestial seedling was responsible for the destruction caused to many planets. "You don't know me."

As some of the team went to locate Peter Quill and the others went to face Ego in the Mojave Desert, Stark remained at the base with Hope van Dyne.

Stark gets through to Bucky Barnes

Stark was told by Peggy Carter to get the seedling away, so Stark contacted Winter Soldier, but was unable to reach him. Realizing Winter Soldier was about to kill Quill, Stark intercepted his transmission and told him not to go through with it. Stark reminded Winter Soldier that he could still be the good person Steve Rogers knew he was. Stark was successful in stopping Winter Soldier, but Ego was able to steal the seedling. Stark was asked about Winter Soldier's status, so he reported that they didn't know where he was, but Stark took comfort in knowing that Bucky Barnes had returned.
