- "This place is sinking."

Hotel Dematteis was the temporary residence of the Midtown School of Science and Technology Tour Group during the start of their European tour. Roger Harrington had informed the group that their hotel was very nice, but when they arrived, many of the group, including Julius Dell, were quite disappointed with the result. After the Battle in the Grand Canal, the group returned to the hotel and discussed the mysterious hero that had saved them from Hydro-Man.
Later that night, Talos, disguised as Nick Fury, infiltrated the hotel and incapacitated student Ned Leeds with a tranquilizer in order to talk to Peter Parker about helping their cause to defeat the Elementals as Spider-Man. Talos then asked Parker to leave the hotel with him to visit his hideout. Parker later returned to the hotel after he turned down Fury's request to join the fight against the Elementals. In the next day, the whole Midtown group left the hotel for their next destination.
- The name of the Hotel is a reference to comic book writer and artist J. M. DeMatteis, who worked on The Amazing Spider-Man book for more than 25 years.
