"You know, it's kind of hard to trust someone when you don't know who that someone really is."
The subject of this article has been deemed non-canon because it contradicts the established movie continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and thus should not be taken as a part of the "real" MCU world.
"I have kept to myself the indiscretions of Hilliard Zemo, eighth of our line, who foolishly harbored notions of using our resources to educate the peasantry. And yet now I understand, if not condone his does derive satisfaction from seeing inferior minds attempt to better themselves, even when such efforts are inevitably restricted by the breeding of those undertaking them."
Heinrich Zemo[src]

Baron Hilliard Zemo was a German nobleman.

Hilliard Zemo was the eighth Baron of the Zemo family, and remembered best by the others as a naive fool. Hilliard believed that the Zemo family should use their immense wealth, power and intelligence to educate the peasantry, a notion that clearly did not catch on in his family line. While Hilliard was long dead by the time Heinrich Zemo awoke the Sleeper that Castle Zemo was created for, he was reflected on in the twelfth Baron's diaries, where he claimed that while he did not agree with Hilliard, he could at least understand where his point-of-view came from after his interactions with the Red Skull and Arnim Zola. This diary was later discovered by Captain America.[1]
