- "Kiss your wi-fi, your coffee maker, and your top-secret satellite feed goodbye."
- ―Phil Coulson[src]
The Hijacking of the Kaena Point Air Force Base was an attempt by S.H.I.E.L.D. to take down the satellite feed of the Kaena Point Air Force Base while they infiltrated its relay station.
Background[]
- "Everything we've been doing, it all leads here. Our job: find it before anyone else."
- ―Phil Coulson[src]
Due to the effects of GH.325 he was injected during his resurrection, Phil Coulson suffered from hypergraphia, making him carve mysterious symbols on any surface he could find. As the carvings became more and more frequent, Skye figured out that they represented a map[5] and, after the Attack on Hank Thompson, S.H.I.E.L.D. realized that they were looking for a city.[2]
Therefore, S.H.I.E.L.D. decided to use satellite feed to map the Earth and find something which fitted with the pattern designed by the strange symbols.[3]
Hijacking[]
- "Kaena Point is down. Six minutes on the clock."
- ―Skye[src]
Phil Coulson identified the satellite network S.H.I.E.L.D. needed to find the city. However, it was based in Kaena Point Air Force Base, which was impregnable for them. Nevertheless, Coulson knew that if ever the Kaena Point feed experienced malfunction, the Laura Creek Station in Australia would act as backup. All S.H.I.E.L.D. had to do was find a way to take down the feed in Kaena and infiltrate the Australian station.
To that end, Coulson gave Skye and Antoine Triplett two apparently harmless objects: a watch and a button. He gave them indications so that these two objects, which were actually designed to trigger an EMP once put in a short distance, would be delivered to Commander Darren and General Cole, who were the two officers in charge in Kaena Point Air Force Base.
Skye and Triplett carried on according to Coulson's instructions. When the two officers met and shook hands, the rigged watch and button were close enough to trigger the expected EMP which successfully took down the satellite feed in Kaena.[3]
Aftermath[]
With the hijacking successful, the Laura Creek Station was powered up as planned by Phil Coulson, enabling Leo Fitz to establish a connection for S.H.I.E.L.D. to access the satellite feed and locate the Kree City during the concurrent Infiltration into Laura Creek Station.[3]
