Henricks was among the members of staff at the New York Bulletin who was called for a meeting by their editor Mitchell Ellison, who informed the team that reports were coming in of a series of explosions across Hell's Kitchen. Needing more information from reliable sources, Ellison ordered Hendricks to call the New York City Police Department to get a statement.[1]
