"Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the new face of the United States military: the Hammer Drones!"
Justin Hammer[src]

The Hammer Drones were remote-controlled military drones designed by Ivan Vanko from Justin Hammer's previous failed attempts. Hammer intended them to replace Iron Man, while Vanko used them to take his revenge on Hammer and Tony Stark.

There are four different lines of drones, all inspired by branches from the United States Armed Forces.

History[]

Ivan Vanko's Plan[]

"This isn't a helmet, this is a head... Ivan, what's going on?"
"Drone better."
"Drone better? Why drone better? Why is drone better?"
"People make problem. Trust me, drone better."
Justin Hammer and Ivan Vanko[src]

Justin Hammer wanted the Hammer Drones for display at the Stark Expo so that he could regain his contract with the government. Originally, they were supposed to be manned suits, but when Ivan Vanko worked on the suits, he changed them to remote-controlled drones. Vanko intended them to be used to attack Tony Stark.

Hammer was angry with Vanko, so he betrayed him and took the drones to the Expo. Vanko escaped and activated the drones and a remotely-controled War Machine armor to cause destruction. The Air Force Drones and War Machine began to chase Iron Man, only for some drones to crash and become destroyed. With the help of Black Widow, War Machine broke free of Vanko's control, and he helped Iron Man fight upcoming swarms of Hammer Drones. Iron Man defeated the last ones standing with a powerful laser beam, only to encounter Vanko in his own suit. After Vanko was defeated, he activated a self-destruct program that had all the destroyed or damaged drones explode, which created a spectacle of explosions all across the Expo.[1]

Alternate Universe Versions[]

Sold by Hammer Industries[]

"Roxxon's the only source of viable combat drones out there after they bought out Hammer."
James Rhodes[src]

In an alternate universe, Hammer Industries produced and sold combat drones. However, the company was then bought out by Roxxon Energy Corporation, ending the production of Hammer Drones and giving Roxxon a monopoly on the product.[2]

Battle at Stark Expo[]

In an alternate universe, the Hammer Drones attacked Stark Expo, leading Iron Man and War Machine on a chase through the facility until they were all stopped.[3]

Produced by Whiplash[]

In an alternate universe, Whiplash found an abandoned warehouse from which to produce a series of drones. He brought them to a technology demonstration and used them to attack. Iron Man then arrived and fought the drones while Natasha Romanoff left to find Whiplash. However, Whiplash was not at the warehouse, so Romanoff returned to help Stark fight the drones.[4]
