- "I'm still that skinny kid from Brooklyn, now just in a big metal suit."
- ―Steve Rogers[src]
The Mark I HYDRA Stomper Armor is an armor created by Howard Stark. Powered by the Tesseract, it was used by Steve Rogers in World War II.
History[]
Howard Stark, after being given the Tesseract, used it to build a large armored suit for Steve Rogers. Rogers used the suit to help Captain Carter fight HYDRA. Rogers took the armor to a fight in the sky, with Carter riding it on his back.
Rogers used the armor to slow a train's movements, allowing the Carter and the Howling Commandos to infiltrate it. However, the train was rigged with explosives and the suit was blown up. The suit survived and was taken into HYDRA custody, along with Rogers.
During a raid on Castle de Krake, the Commandos found the armor restrained, and Rogers on the floor. Rogers went back in the armor, and told the Commandos to charge it up. Rogers then went to fight the Champion of HYDRA with Carter, but the suit ran out of power after Rogers got the Commandos at of the castle. After Carter went through the portal to fight the creature, it shut down, and trapped her, with the only thing left being the Tesseract.[1]
After the war, Howard developed a new power source for the armor using a mix of plutonium and pomade. Rogers and Bucky Barnes formed a two-man army that destroyed every HYDRA base on Earth, bringing an end to the organization. However, both Rogers and the armor were lost on their final mission in 1953. While Rogers was presumed to be dead, he was actually captured by the Red Room and brainwashed into working for them.
The armor was eventually replaced by the Red Room with the HYDRA Stomper Armor: Mark II.[2]
