Groot and the Great Prophecy is the fifth and final episode of the second season of I Am Groot.
Synopsis[]
In this adventure narrated by Watcher, Groot finds himself in the heart of an ancient Drez-Lar temple with a mythic prophecy he must fulfill to save the universe.[1]
Plot[]
As the Benatar flies through outer space, Watcher explains the prophecy behind the last Seed of Drez-Lar and observes Groot entering the Ancient Drez-Lar Temple while holding a purple ball. Groot walks confidently toward the seed inside the temple while bouncing the ball but stumbles into a trap, much to The Watcher's concern. An array of arrows soars just over Groot's head, which he enjoys. He then jumps onto another trap while still holding the ball, triggering the same mechanism. He does this three more times, with the last two projecting arrows directly towards him. The Watcher is surprised to see Groot manage to set off every trap. Groot shouts in pride. Another trap is triggered by Groot, this time being axes attached to the ceiling and swaying, blocking the way. Groot easily walks below them, playing with the ball once again. Two spiky cylinders spiral beside him, yet Groot continues walking. The Watcher is impressed by how Groot navigates untouched through every obstacle. Groot activates one final trap, making the temple tremble and lava flow from the mouth of a statue, down onto a miniature labyrinth, and towards the center, where the seed is preserved. The Watcher worries about the seed, while Groot loses control of his ball, which bounces off towards an ancient mural depicting the prophecy. He runs over to retrieve it, bothering The Watcher.
Groot notices the mural and stares at it in awe before grabbing a blue rock on the ground and drawing on the mural. He then walks away and urinates next to it, to The Watcher's disgust. While The Watcher worries about the seed, Groot walks without the ball over to the light of the seed and casts shadows onto the wall behind it, making The Watcher wonder if Groot can see him, before changing his mind. Groot then naps on a webby hammock, worrying The Watcher even more about the seed. Luckily, a ray of light wakes Groot up and leads him to the labyrinth. There, he hops on its walls and reaches the center. He looks at the seed for a moment and grabs the purple ball, which is now on the seed, just before the lava reaches and burns it, scaring The Watcher about the fate of the universe. The temple trembles again and starts to fall into ruins as lava flows on the ground, scaring Groot. The Watcher decides not to watch the temple wreck. While Groot escapes the rubble, bouncing the ball, The Watcher understands that the seed growing out of the temple, as described in the prophecy, is a metaphor for Groot. Back in the Benatar, Groot waves at The Watcher through one of the ship's windows, surprising him.
