Joining the Guardians of the Galaxy[]
Groot met a group of people and began fighting alongside them as the Guardians of the Galaxy. At one point, Groot joined the Guardians in a fight against an Abilisk on Sovereign and ate a bug which Rocket Raccoon made him spit out. At another point, Groot stood on Rocket's shoulder as a ship they were on began making several jumps through the Universal Neural Teleportation Network, causing their faces to distort.[2]
The Guardians of the Galaxy went to Earth together and worked with the Avengers at their Avengers Campus in Paris, where they worked to recruit more people to their mission. At one point, Groot, Star-Lord, and Gamora danced together with their recruits.[3]
Kidnapped[]

Groot, along with the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy, was taken by the Collector and brought to his collection on Avengers Campus. They were placed in individual cages and put on display for the Collector's VIP guests as Peter Quill and Gamora argued about what the cages displayed their aliases as. Rocket and Groot yelled at the pair, asking them to keep it down. The Guardians resumed arguing, leading Groot to yell.
Rocket eventually broke out of his cage and hijacked an elevator within the collection, using it to destroy the generator powering the Guardians' cages. Groot and the other Guardians jumped safely, when Drax was suddenly attacked by an Abilisk. Groot stayed behind while Quill and Gamora went to help Drax. Groot then got attacked by a Frost Beast, but Drax appeared and saved him. Groot celebrated his freedom with Cosmo and the rest of the Guardians. Rocket returned to the team, and Groot gave him a high five as Mantis arrived in the Milano to take them away. Groot waved goodbye to the Collector's guests who helped Rocket,[4] but stayed behind while the other Guardians left and got lost in the collection.[5]

Groot navigated the Tivan Collection, despite being lost, and Rocket eventually came to rescue him. However, as Rocket arrived, Groot kept running, getting chased by a Fire Dragon. Rocket told the people helping him to wave their arms and distract the fire dragon, but Groot did so instead, believing the instruction to be for him. Rocket told Groot not to, and the two ran away from the dragon again. Having reached safety, Rocket made Groot spit something out which he had eaten, and Groot swore and ran away as the fire dragon returned. Rocket ran as well, yelling at Groot to watch his language. Groot climbed on top of Rocket's shoulder as Rocket acknowledged the people who helped him rescue Groot, but Groot then noticed another monster and ran away as Rocket warned the people who helped to stand still and the two left the collection.[5]
Missing a Mission[]
Groot at one point was busy when the Avengers tried to contact him regarding Kree missiles approaching Earth.[6]
Celebrating Rocket Raccoon[]

Groot and Rocket Raccoon spent time together on the Milano while F.R.I.D.A.Y. organized a celebration for the heroes of the galaxy. Groot noticed that his video was being displayed and waved while Rocket slept. Groot woke Rocket up, and F.R.I.D.A.Y. explained that they were hosting the celebration dinner on a ship, leading Rocket to mock the ship as Groot laughed. F.R.I.D.A.Y. showed video of several of the videos, including one of Peter Quill, offending Rocket. Rocket talked about his own heroics, and Groot backed him up. Groot tried to comfort Rocket, who said that no one cared about Groot's opinion of him. Rocket walked away to finish repairs on the Milano, dejected.
Groot had an idea to cheer Rocket up and asked to help with the dinner, so F.R.I.D.A.Y. asked what Groot could do. Despite F.R.I.D.A.Y.'s urging that they do not have time, Groot began gathering parts and assembling a device. Groot started dancing to music that got broadcasted to the celebration dinner as he worked, and F.R.I.D.A.Y. hesitantly allowed the music to play. While the dinner went on, Groot gathered more parts and brought them over by the time F.R.I.D.A.Y. checked in on him again. He connected to pieces together, electrocuting himself and causing an alarm to go off at the dinner as Groot's head caught fire. Groot patted his head and fixed the electronics, restoring the music.
Rocket found Groot as he brought over Rocket's Quantum Destroyer and plugged it into his device, despite the danger. Rocket then noticed that Groot was pointing his device at the celebration ship full of Terrans, urging Groot not to push the button to turn it on. Groot did it anyway, causing the display to show several videos of Rocket's heroism. Rocket got emotional as he realized what Groot did. He realized he was being watched and cleared the video clips, claiming to have something in his eye and encouraging everyone to enjoy their celebration. Groot then resumed dancing as the music returned.[2]
Personality[]
Groot is a fun-loving individual who wants the people around him to enjoy themself. He threw off F.R.I.D.A.Y.'s scheduled plans to put on music he found entertaining and danced through the Milano even while working on a dangerous piece of equipment involving the Quantum Destroyer. The inventing he did was also intended to cheer up his friend Rocket Raccoon by honoring him as a hero. He is also easily distracted, as he got lost on his way to the Milano and got stuck within the Tivan Collection and would regularly eat bugs while in the middle of fights.

- Flora colossus physiology: Groot is a member of the alien race Flora colossi, which resemble trees with superhuman abilities.
- Superhuman Strength: Groot was able to lift large pieces of equipment several times his own size.
- Superhuman Durability: Groot's skin is composed of wood, which allows him to survive harder conditions than other species. He accidentally electrocuted himself, causing his head to catch fire, but was able to carry on as if it had not happened.
- Superhuman Stamina: Groot is able to fight for extended periods of time without getting tired.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: When Groot takes physical damage, he is able to heal quickly.
- Body Manipulation: Groot has the ability to alter his physical form.
- Limb Extension: Groot is able to extend any part of his body, especially his limbs, to make himself longer.
- Plant Generation: Groot is able to grow different plants from parts of his body.
Abilities[]
- Expert Marksman: Groot created a satellite that would project images to whatever computer it was pointed at, and was able to aim it at the ship hosting a celebration of heroes with perfect precision from the Milano, which was in space.
- Expert Engineer: Groot was able to create a satellite that project any image onto a screen using spare parts from the Milano.
- Multilingualism: Although Groot can only speak in his species' language, he is able to understand various languages, including English.

- Milano: As a Guardian of the Galaxy, Groot spent much of his time on the team's ship, the Milano. Groot and the rest of the Guardians escaped onto the Milano from their imprisonment at the Tivan Collection. Groot later spent time with Rocket Raccoon and found parts around the ship to project videos of Rocket's heroism onto another ship.

- Despite sometimes having the appearance of the Original Groot, all of the attractions take place after the Battle of Xandar, meaning Groot has a fluctuating appearance from baby Groot to original Groot.
