Groot's First Steps is the first episode of the first season of I Am Groot.
Synopsis[]
Baby Groot discovers he's not the only plant being pampered aboard his spaceship. A happy accident convinces Groot to try taking his first steps out of his pot—only to learn you have to walk before you can run.
Plot[]
Groot's pot cracks
Groot sits in his pot when two machines clean him up. He looks at the new leaves forming on him and plucks them off. Later, he is eating cheese balls when his pot cracks because he is getting too big. The machines then pick him up off the counter and replace him with a bigger tree. The angry and cold Groot wraps himself in a blanket, but the machines take it from him and put it on the new tree. Groot has a fit and throws a Yaro Root at the tree, only for it to ricochet and knock Groot off the table. Groot catches himself before hitting the ground.
Groot takes his first steps
He makes his way back up to the table and extends his branches to grab the tree, but they slip and wrap himself instead. Groot then uses a pipe above to swing from there onto the tree. He face plants right in front of it and starts punching the tree. He breaks off a branch and runs away, but the branch emits green goo that wraps around Groot. Groot then slingshots into the tree and they both fall onto the floor, breaking Groot's pot. Groot tries to get up and finds that he has legs. He attempts to walk, but can't get up. Once he does, he runs to the tree and gloats. Later, he eats cheese balls with the tree and slaps one of the machines.

- According to the MCU timeline on Disney+, this is the only short that takes place between Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The other four shorts take place after the latter film.
