Saal helps Nova Prime close the Planetary Shield
When Ronan the Accuser attacked Xandar, Saal and the Nova Corps were defenseless to the Accuser as he threatened to wreak havoc on the planet. This forced Irani Rael to make the decision to close the Planetary Shield, cutting off Xandar from the universe for fifty years.[1]

Saal argues with Nebula

Five years into the isolation, Saal had grown annoyed to the Nova Corpsman, Nebula as she was former Black Order. When Yondu Udonta was reported as murdered, Saal showed up later than Nebula and brushed her off, saying that the real cops were there. Saal took one look at the body before telling his men to clean it up before the next day.
Saal watches Nebula walk away
Nebula spoke up, sarcastically saying he already solved the case. Saal then told her that he did not need Black Order scum telling him how to do his job. Nebula told him she was a former Black Order member. Saal then turned back around, reminding the corpsmen to clean up the crime scene. As it turned out, Udonta was killed because he had information about the source codes, which Irani Rael wanted to open the Planetary Shield to surrender to Ronan the Accuser. However, Nebula did not know this.[1]
Defeated by Black Order Trash[]
Saal deems Nebula deceased
Saal later accompanied Irani Rael to the facility holding the Xandarian Mainframe Core. Rael approached Yon-Rogg, who had successfully got the source codes from Nebula, who was also there, but injured and on the ground. Rael and Yon-Rogg walked away, leaving Saal and his men to dispose of Nebula. The group attacked Nebula, who was knocked down repeatedly until she mustered the strength to hit Saal and run away. The group shot at her until she jumped off the building to the ground. Saal figured she could not survive and deemed her dead.
Saal gets rid of the guards
Back at the Nova Corps Headquarters, Rael opened the Planetary Shield while Nebula and her group of allies arrived. Additionally, Saal got rid of all guards not on his side. Saal, Yon-Rogg and the Corpsmen pointed their guns at her. Rael voiced that it was too late, but she spoke to soon as the shield started closing in on Ronan the Accuser, killing him. Nebula that spoke, saying she put a twist on the codes as she knew Rael would betray her.
Saal is killed by Korg
Angry, Rael then told Saal and the others to kill everyone. Saal shot at Korg, Miek, Groot and Howard the Duck, but they were overpowered. In the end, Saal and Yon-Rogg were crawling on the ground trying to hide when Korg approached them. He asked who the bad guy was leading the duo to laugh before Yon-Rogg said it was Saal. Korg then picked them both up and slammed them together as well as into the ground repeatedly, killing Saal.[1]
