"Ikaris? The boy who flew too close to the sun?"
"Sprite came up with that tale when we were in Athens."
Dane Whitman and Sersi[src]

Athens is the capital and largest city of Greece and one of the world's oldest cities.

History[]

Ancient Greece[]

The Eternals, a group of superpowered individuals created by the Celestials, were deployed to Earth to fight to Deviants. They eventually started residing in Athens. During this period, Sprite used her illusion powers to introduce fictionalized stories of the Eternals to the Ancient Greeks, creating tales regarding the flying Ikaris and Thena, the Eternal Goddess of War. The Ancient Greeks incorporated Ikaris and Thena as Icarus and Athena respectively into their historical legends and mythology, revering them as deities.[1]

Blackout Attack[]

Athens was one of seven cities hit by worldwide attack organized by the Watchdogs, that caused a total blackout of the city with a series of EMP devices. However, the blackout was stopped by S.H.I.E.L.D., who restored power to Athens.[2]

Framework Network[]

With the knowledge of the Darkhold, Holden Radcliffe and Aida began perfecting the Framework. Upon completion, the code had become so powerful that it had to be processed on devices from all around the world. Part of the data was transmitted to an archive server in Athens.[3]

Flag Smashers' Political Ultimatum[]

In 2023, following the Blip, Greece joined the Global Repatriation Council and set up a camp in Athens. In 2024, the Flag Smashers targeted that camp on their campaign.[4]
