- "My mother told stories about a place like this, a protected land with people that never have to leave."
- ―Namor[src]
Fen was a member of a Mayan tribe residing in Zama Village and one of the first Talokanil to exist. As she and her tribe cast away the surface world, Fen gave birth to the first Talokanil child to be born in the ocean, Ch'ah Toh Almehen, who would later in life be known to the surface world as Namor.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
- "My mother and her village were driven from their farms by Spanish conquistadors who brought the smallpox, a hateful language, and dogma from another world. Facing starvation, war, and disease, my people turned to Chaac. Our god of rain and abundance. Chaac gave our shaman a vision. A way to save his people."
- ―Namor[src]
Fen was a woman from the Yucatán. She met a pochteca mercenary spy from the Aztec Empire when he came to live in the Yucatán, and became pregnant with his child.[3] Her village soon grew ill with smallpox brought on by the Spanish conquistadors that invaded their land and farms. Their god, Chaac gave their shaman a vision. The shaman traveled and found a Talokanil Herb, which could save them.[4]
Becoming a Talokanil[]
- "Chaac led him to a plant sprouting from a blue rock. My mother was pregnant with me at the time. She did not want to ingest the plant, for fear of what it may do to me. But the Shaman was convincing. They all fell sick, and their lives, their existence there, ended. The plant took away their ability to breathe air, but it enabled them to draw oxygen from the sea. They settled the ocean, away from war and diseases. My mother gave birth to me there, and I became the firstborn son of Talokan."
- ―Namor[src]
Fen was skeptical of the cure due to her pregnancy. However, she was assured that her son would be a leader of the new world. She took the herb and passed out. She woke up to find herself blue and in need of breathing. They ran to the water as they now needed it to draw oxygen as they were turned into the first Talokanil.
They started a new civilization called Talokan underwater and soon found Vibranium. Fen then gave birth to her son, Ch'ah Toh Almehen, who was a mutant with special abilities. Fen watched as her son grew up and told him stories about a place with clean water and air with advanced vibranium technology, which was protected and people never had to leave.[4] She also told him the Aztec stories his father had told her, with Ch'ah Toh Almehen having never known his father, including the Aztec underworld paradise of Tlālōcān.[3]
Death[]
Fen soon grew sad about leaving her life on land. She soon gave up hope and died of a broken heart. As her dying wish, she asked for her body to be buried where she used to live.[4]
Legacy[]
- "For centuries, the surface nations have conquered and enslaved people like us. Over resources. Since the day I buried my mother, I have prepared my people for the time they will come for us. And that machine is the sign that the time is now. I need to know Wakanda is an ally or an enemy. There is no in-between."
- ―Namor[src]
Ch'ah Toh Almehen wanted to give her her wish. He and his fellow Talokanil went to the surface only to see it was taken over by the Spanish and the Mayans enslaved. He ordered the burning of their village as he watched. They then buried Fen in the middle of the burning village as a friar cursed Almehen, calling him "El Niño sin Amor", meaning "the child without love". He adopted the name, Namor, as a warning to his enemies, with the experience showing him how bad the surface world was and that he needed to protect his kind from it.[4]
Personality[]
Fen shown to be a kind and caring person to her loved ones, even refusing to consume the glowing flower out of fear that something would happen to her son. However, due to her kind-hearted personality, she also proved to be very impressionable as she was quickly convinced to take the flower by her tribe's shaman. In addition, she showed to be a person very attached to her previous home on the surface world, always having the desire to return to her old home until her last days of life.
