- "That was armed, the moment you put it on."
- ―Alexander Pierce to Black Widow[src]
The Explosive Security Badges were the bombs disguised as security badges that Alexander Pierce used to assassinate the World Security Council.
History[]
Battle at the Triskelion[]
- "Unless you want a two-inch hole in your sternum, I'd put that gun down."
- ―Alexander Pierce to Black Widow[src]
As the World Security Council arrived at the Triskelion to witness the launch of Project Insight, they were given security badges to wear, unaware that they were armed. Each member of the World Security Council wore the badge as they entered Alexander Pierce's office. Steve Rogers then announced over the intercom that HYDRA had infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D., and that Pierce was working with HYDRA. Pierce and Council were joined by a STRIKE team, which held their guns on the Council, when Councilwoman Hawley surprised Pierce by revealing herself to really be Natasha Romanoff in disguise. Romanoff held Pierce at gunpoint, forcing him to help Nick Fury release of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s information to the public.
Pierce, however, used his cell phone to activate the explosive security badges being worn by Rockwell, Yen, and Singh. The badges burned through their skin and damaged their organs, killing them. This resulted in Romanoff having to drop the gun due to the badge on her own chest. Pierce attempted to escape using Romanoff as a hostage, but Romanoff activated a Taser Disk in her hand, short circuiting the explosive security badge she was wearing and giving Fury the chance to kill Pierce.[1]
Design and Capabilities[]
The security badges were designed to appear to appear identical to S.H.I.E.L.D. security badges and granted access to a room where Project Insight would be watch. The badges were also explosive, and were activated from a button on Alexander Pierce's phone.
