The Escape from the Sovereign Fleet was an attempt by the Guardians of the Galaxy to evade Sovereign Omnicrafts.
Background[]
Ayesha, the High Priestess of the Sovereign people and their leader, hired the Guardians of the Galaxy in order to kill an interdimensional monster called the Abilisk, which was eating Anulax Batteries. After the battling and defeating the monster, the Guardians meant to give the batteries to the Sovereign: However, Rocket decided to take some of the batteries for himself.[2]
Escape[]
Ayesha discovered that Rocket had stolen the Anulax Batteries from the Sovereign, and sent a fleet of drones after the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Guardians, realizing they were outnumbered, decided to head for a hyperspace warp, which involved flying through a quantum asteroid field, where the asteroids quantum tunnel around and flicker in and out of existence as if they randomly teleported, making it very dangerous to fly through the area.
Star-Lord and Rocket barely managed to maneuver through the field while most of the Omnicrafts were destroyed, except for one piloted by Zylak. Due to an argument, the Milano was struck by several asteroids and shots fired from the drone, preventing the spaceship to retaliate as the weapons systems had been damaged.
Drax the Destroyer then put on a spacesuit, grabbed an Energy Cannon, and tethered himself to the ship, flew out into space, and successfully shot down the last drone. However, as the Milano flew out of the asteroid field, they were attacked by even more Sovereign drones that went around the field, and the ship was even more heavily damaged. Suddenly, the drones were all destroyed in a single strike by a mysterious figure on another spacecraft.[2]
Aftermath[]
Ego's Encounter[]
The Guardians' ship, heavily damaged by the confrontation against the Sovereign fleet, 277 crashed on the nearby planet Berhert. On Berhert, the Guardians met the mysterious figure that had destroyed the Sovereign fleet which was revealed to be Ego, a Celestial who eventually turned out to be Peter Quill's father.[2]
Sovereign's Revenge[]
Infuriated by their defeat, Ayesha and the Sovereign resorted to hiring Yondu Udonta and his Ravager clan to track down the Guardians. With coordinates provided by Taserface, the Sovereign were able to find the Guardians on Ego and launched their second attack. However, Yondu had chosen to side with the Guardians and used Nebula's cybernetic arm to power a laser that obliterated the entire Omnicraft fleet.[2] Despite having most of her resources depleted, Ayesha was able to create a Sovereign powerful enough to destroy the Guardians of the Galaxy. She then named the Sovereign "Adam".[3]
