The Escape from Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health was a successful attempt from Basar to free Kthara from the Keeper's Skull containing her and help her escape her confinement at Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health.
Background[]
Kthara, from inside her containment at Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, sent the nurse Keith Spivey to a crypt in Colma, where he was sacrificed and possessed by the demon Basar, Kthara's son.[3] Basar then went on a killing spree, at one point massacring and entire fraternity.[4] He then went to the Blood Hotel and killed all of the workers there, liberating the demon patients and recruiting them for his army.[2] Daimon Helstrom and Gabriella Rosetti showed up at the Blood Hotel, with Rosetti intending to show Helstrom how the hotel operated, but they instead found the corpses of the Blood members.[5] They rushed back to Saint Teresa's, hoping to stop Helstrom's father, who they assumed was responsible for the killings. However, they got a flat tire along the way and had to go to a gas station to get it fixed. Meanwhile, Basar went to Keith Spivey's house and took his nurse uniform and ID, kidnapping Spivey's wife in the process.[2]
Escape[]
Basar arrived at Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, where he walked into the security room and killed the security guard, Ellis. He broke down the door to Victoria Helstrom's room and found that she was not inside, since Ana Helstrom had taken her outside to talk. Meanwhile, Basar sent Naren and the demon possessing Brian to attack Daimon Helstrom and Gabriella Rosetti, although Helstrom easily defeated both demons.
Ana and Victoria Helstrom went back inside Saint Teresa's, while Louise Hastings found Ellis' body. She put the hospital on lockdown and found Ana and Victoria, telling them what happened. Ana freed her mother to give her a fighting chance when a security guard came and told Hastings that everybody in the hospital was locked inside, when the power went out and backup power turned on.
Meanwhile, Basar and several other demons found Dr. Edgar Lawrence, who begged to be spared for the sake of his infant son. Basar marked Lawrence for possession by Magoth. Magoth stole the Keeper's Skull from Victoria and ran off with it, prompting an argument between Ana and Hastings about whether Ana should run after Magoth or wait for Daimon to return. While Daimon and Rosetti drove up and forced the doors open to rush in, the alarm went off signaling that all of the patients in the hospital had been freed, including Chris Yen, who grabbed an axe from the emergency kit.
Ana Helstorm and Hastings went into the common area for patients, and Hastings asked Tanya to go back to her room. Manny and Jeff got into a fight, so Hastings and Helstrom tranquilized Jeff and told Manny to return to his room. Helstrom and Hastings went into the basement of the hospital, where Helstrom got attacked by Raum and another demon. Hastings helped Helstrom momentarily before getting pushed to the ground, and both demons attacked Helstrom, who choked them until they became unconscious and threw them to the ground. Helstrom assured Hastings they were not dead and ran off to find Magoth.
Meanwhile, Victoria Helstrom waited in Hastings' office, when she got attacked by a patient. Daimon Helstrom and Rosetti arrived and saved her, happily reuniting. Daimon introduced Rosetti to Victoria, and the three of them went searching for the Keeper's skull. Meanwhile, Yen had gotten to Magoth and killed his host, getting the skull for himself. Helstrom convinced him to give it to her, and the three ran off together, reuniting with Daimon, Victoria, and Rosetti. Daimon and Ana argued about whether they should use the skull against their father, and Victoria decided to weigh in, saying that she felt a responsibility to protect her family and opting to sacrifice herself. Basar then attacked, pushing everyone to the side and marking Gabriella Rosetti, taking Victoria with her. Ana and Daimon then rushed down the stairs to get to them before he could take her away.
They made it downstairs, and Ana engaged in a fight with Basar while Daimon ran to their mother. Basar threw Ana across the room, causing the Keeper's Skull to roll underneath a truck. Daimon began attacking Basar, angry that he hurt Ana, and the two fought while Victoria reach under the truck for the skull and Ana began to reorient herself. Basar got the upper hand against Daimon, opening the mouth on his stomach in preparation to consume him, but then Victoria got the skull and gave it to Ana, who put it in Basar's mouth. This caused Basar's host body to get destroyed, and the Helstorm siblings watched it get consumed in flames and ripped in two. Helstrom told Basar, who she believed to be her father, that she would never be like him. Meanwhile, Kthara managed to regain control of Victoria's body, and caused a noise that distracted Daimon and Ana. Basar grabbed Ana's leg, and her powers caused her to realize that they had not been fighting their father. Kthara then dragged Basar's body onto the truck and closed the door as Basar drove them away. Daimon tried to tell Ana that their father could not hurt them anymore, but then Ana told him that the demon was not their father.[2]
Aftermath[]
The realization that Basar was not Daimon and Ana Helstrom's father drove the siblings apart and Ana returned to San Francisco with Chris Yen. Meanwhile, Daimon and Gabriella Rosetti questioned Loman, who had been sedated during the attack. After giving up very little information, Loman killed his host, ending their conversation abruptly. Wondering where Caretaker was, since he was not present through the entire event, Louise Hastings reached out to Archbishop Terrazi and asked him to reach out to the Blood for help looking for him, although he refused.
Meanwhile, Kthara, Raum, and Basar sought shelter at Portland Harbor, where they hid on the Garibaldi II. Raum got drugs to help Kthara's weakening host body, while Basar writhed in pain. As Kthara comforted her son, he communicated to her and Raum that he had marked Rosetti during the attack, pleasing Kthara.[6]
