"I'm impressed. You're good, Carter; holy cow, you are good. I got a dozen guys in there who wish they could play the game half as well as you."
"I'm not playing a game, I never was!"

The Escape from SSR Custody was an attempt to control Roger Dooley from Johann Fennhoff to help him find the Midnight Oil, giving him the Stark Heat Vest in exchange.

"I don't work here anymore, but if you want a confession, if you want the truth, I'm ready to give it to you."
Peggy Carter[src]

In custody of the Strategic Scientific Reserve, Peggy Carter and Edwin Jarvis observed that Fennhoff, still using Viktor Ivchenko as an alias, was speaking in morse code to someone in an adjacent building with plans to infiltrate the building in ninety minutes.[2] Upon discovering this, Carter decided to come clean and admit that the signed confession from Howard Stark was falsified. She also debriefed the senior SSA agents on the real events that occurred and her motivation to prove Stark's innocence. To gain their trust, she showed them the contents of the Blitzkrieg Button, the last vial of Steve Rogers' blood.[3]

Escape[]

"Mr. Jarvis, how would you feel if we smashed that mirror with this table?"
"I would feel splendid about it."
"All right. We pick it up, and then on the count of three..."
"Battering ram."

Roger Dooley stayed behind in order to keep an eye on Fennhoff, but he proceeded to hypnotize Dooley with a memory of his family. Now fully under his control, Dooley lured and trapped Carter and Jarvis in an interrogation room, before taking Fennhoff to the lab to retrieve several of Stark's inventions, including the Stark Heat Vest and Midnight Oil. Dooley tried to resist handing over the Oil, but Fennhoff managed to overpower his will, and was ordered to put the heat vest on.

Meanwhile, Jack Thompson and Daniel Sousa searched the building where Carter claimed the person who was communicating with Fennhoff was. All agents split up, and Sousa ended up fighting Underwood, gaining the upper hand and forcing her to to escape. Underwood killed an agent and stole a car to pick up Fennhoff at the front of the New York Bell Company, in order to flee the scene with the stolen canisters.

Still handcuffed to a table in the interrogation room, Carter and Jarvis tried to break out by smashing the table into a mirror when Thompson walked in, coming to check out the noise. He freed them and together they went to try to find Dooley, discovering him in a trance in his office, strapped with the activated heat vest bound to explode.[1]

Aftermath[]

"Promise me, you'll get the son of a bitch who did this. Say it!"
"We'll catch him."
"Attagirl."

Roger Dooley's last demand for Peggy Carter to catch Johann Fennhoff

Scientists tried to safely remove the vest off of Dooley to no avail. Dooley, realizing that there is no hope for him, informed the other agents about the extent of Fennhoff's abilities, and asked Carter to promise him to catch Fennhoff. In order to protect the other agents, Dooley sacrificied himself, using a gun to shoot out the windows and jumping out, detonating in mid-air.[2]
