The Escape from Rikers Island was a successful attempt by Benjamin Poindexter to break out of Rikers Island and go after Wilson Fisk.

Vanessa Fisk hired Bullseye to track down and kill Foggy Nelson,[3] which he did successfully. However, he was defeated by Daredevil and taken into custody by the NYPD. Soon, Poindexter was given a life sentence[4] to be served in Rikers Island. A few months into his stay, he was moved from solitary confinement to the general population, prompting him to request a meeting with Matt Murdock. As they talked, Murdock became angry and repeatedly slammed Poindexter's head onto the table, knocking a tooth loose. Poindexter was then taken away to receive stitches for a head wound.[3]

A surgeon stitched up Benjamin Poindexter's injury and told him the stiches would come out if they were untouched. Franklin Battle then began unhooking Poindexter from his restraints to return him to prison. However, Poindexter suddenly smiled disturbingly, showing the tooth Matt Murdock had knocked loose clutched between his jaw. Before Battle had time to react, Poindexter spat the tooth at Battle with deadly force, hitting him in the eye.

As Battle cursed on the floor, Poindexter finished undoing his restraints before grabbing a pair of scissors, breaking them in half, and throwing one blade into Battle's forehead, killing him. The surgeon pleaded with Poindexter to spare him, but Poindexter launched the other blade at him as well. Poindexter admired his work before changing into Battle's uniform and escaping the prison on a bus leaving the facility.[3]

When the bus reached its destination, Benjamin Poindexter made his way to Gracie Mansion, where Mayor Wilson Fisk was hosting a Black & White Ball. There, he planned to kill Fisk, taking up a position on the balcony with a sniper procured from a guard. Poindexter aimed down his sight at Fisk and pulled the trigger; however, Matt Murdock, who was in attendance, jumped in front of Fisk and was struck by the bullet.[3]
