The Escape from Batiment B3 was the successful escape attempt of Ivan Vanko.

Ivan Vanko is arrested
Ivan Vanko was taken into custody by French law enforcement for attacking Tony Stark in Monaco, and transported to the prison Batiment B3, where he was questioned by Stark as to the origins of his suit and Arc Reactor. Meanwhile, Justin Hammer bribed some of the prison guards to aid in the escape.[3]
Escape[]
Ivan Vanko walks away from his cell
- "Enjoy the potatoes."

While in his cell after his visit from Tony Stark, Ivan Vanko received his tray of food brought to him by a guard. On that tray was a note that said "Enjoy the potatoes". Vanko then picked up the potatoes, noticing that it was a make shift bomb. Another prisoner with the same ID number was put into the cell with Vanko, which he then knocked out by slamming his head against a sink.
A key was then placed on the door by a corrupt guard allowing Vanko to exit his cell after setting the bomb. Walking down the hall, Vanko was confronted by a guard, whom Vanko killed by snapping his neck. The bomb then went off, allowing Vanko to try and escape through a nearby stairwell. He noticed it was filled with guards and turned around only to be captured by two other guards who placed a bag over his head, handcuffed him, and threw him in the back of a van to meet Justin Hammer.[3]

Ivan Vanko is recruited by Justin Hammer
- "You and me, we're a lot alike in a lot of ways. The only difference between you and I is that I have resources. I think, if I may, you need my resources. Someone behind you, a benefactor. I'd like to be that guy."

When Ivan Vanko arrived to meet Justin Hammer, Hammer recruited him and gave him resources to make the Hammer Drones. Hammer was Vanko's benefactor and supplier until Vanko betrayed Hammer, and programed the drones and the War Machine Mark II Armor to attack Iron Man at the Stark Expo.[3]
