"Come on. I never totally fit in with the gang, anyway."
The subject of this article is part of an MCU franchise story that has been officially deemed to be non-canonical to the primary continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Its events instead occur in another reality within the Multiverse.

The "Enclave Attacks" Universe is an alternate reality where the Enclave attacked New York City but was stopped by the Hulk.

History[]

Project Gamma Pulse[]

"I know firsthand the horrors scientists sometimes inflict on mankind."
Bruce Banner[src]

Bruce Banner and Betty Ross worked on a military project to enhance soldiers' abilities under the supervision of Glenn Talbot and Thaddeus Ross. However, the experiment went wrong and turned Banner into the monstrous Hulk. Banner was forced on the run as Talbot and Ross led a manhunt for Banner, who came to view himself as a monster and tried to kill himself. However, Hulk stopped his own death.

Simon Utrecht began attempting to recreate the Project Gamma Pulse without the use of gamma radiation. Meanwhile, the Enclave were established in New York City and used the city as a testing ground for its advanced weapons technologies, using the Paragon Corporation as a front. Bruce Banner fled to Porto Verde, where he was able to live until he was found and ambushed by a military team led by Emil Blosnky. Hulk defeated the soldiers and fled, leading Ross to tell Blonsky the truth regarding the experiment.[1]

Fighting the Enclave[]

Kyklops Destroyed

"Whatever you were back there... if I had you on my side..."
"It isn't on anyone's side."
Rick Jones and Bruce Banner[src]

Hulk fled to New York City, where he came across Rick Jones being mind controlled to walk off the ledge of a building by Enclave soldiers. Jones watched Hulk transform back into Banner and thanked him, asking for help defeating the Enclave. Jones directed Hulk to a Paragon Corporation building, leading to the destruction of the facility. Jones stole one of the Enclave's tanks, and Hulk protected him as he reached a safe house. The Vulcan Sector of the Enclave then used a series of Earthquake Bombs, so Hulk brought Jones to the location of each bomb and fought the Enclave's soldiers as Jones defused each bomb. In retaliation, the Enclave sent Kyklops to attack Jones, but Hulk saved him.[1]

Search for a Cure[]

U-Foes 2

The U-Foes form

"The monster inside me never rests. I have to find a cure. I can't let anyone stop me -- especially those who would use this horrible curse as a weapon."
―Bruce Banner[src]

Bruce Banner approached Samuel Sterns and asked for help curing himself of the Hulk. Sterns explained that he needed data from the United States army in order to develop the cure, so Banner transformed into Hulk and retrieved the data. Sterns told Banner about Simon Utrecht's attempts to recreate the experiment. Hulk and the army both showed up to confront Utrecht, leading to an accident in which Utrecht, Michael Steel, James Darnell, and Ann Darnell were transformed and given superhuman abilities, becoming the U-Foes. The U-Foes attacked Hulk, who defeated them.

The Army used a jamming device to interfere with Sterns' efforts to search for a cure, leading Hulk to throw the device into the lake at Central Park. Hulk then stole several nanites which Sterns needed to make the cure. He then brought the nanites back to Empire State University. Due to the increased attacks, Glenn Talbot ordered a missile strike against Hulk, but Rick Jones helped Hulk find the source of the missiles and destroy them.[1]

Further Enclave Plots[]

Sterns Scrubber

Samuel Sterns gives Hulk the Scrubber

"Enclave's activated a control antenna and you're the only one who can stop them."
Rick Jones to Hulk[src]

Rick Jones learned that the Enclave planned to use several Energy Consumption Engines on New York City. Hulk found and destroyed all of the engines, fighting through the Enclave's defenses. Hulk then planted salt water in the Enclave's chemical bombs to prevent them from catalyzing. Hulk could not stop all of the bombs though, and several went off throughout the city. Hulk went to investigate but saw people passing out, leading Jones to suggest that Hulk retreat. Samuel Sterns realized that the chemical bombs were responsible, so he created a Scrubber to counteract the bombs' effect. Hulk activated the Scrubber in each area and returned it to Sterns, who safely disposed of its contents.

The Enclave then created a Mind Control Device which they planned on using to control New Yorkers. Hulk helped Jones recover data about the device and destroyed the Paragon Corporation building it was stored in. The Enclave sent a Kyklops to retrieve the data from Jones, but Hulk helped Jones reach their safehouse. Sterns gave Hulk a countermeasure to the Enclave's mind control, allowing Hulk to frighten civilians out of their mind controlled state. Hulk destroyed that atenna, but another one was set up in Times Square, where Bi-Beast was sent to protect it. Hulk then blew up the second antenna and defeated Bi-Beast.[1]

Public Relations Crisis[]

Jones hostage

Rick Jones is taken hostage

"He's using Rick as bait. That makes me angry. Talbot won't like me when I'm angry."
―Bruce Banner[src]

Rick Jones realized that Glenn Talbot was the one leading the attacks against Hulk and informed Bruce Banner. The two made a plan in which Hulk would cause significant damage in New York City, attracting the attention of both the American military and the media. Once Hulk had the attention of both, Talbot believed the news helicopters to be hostile and fired at them, discrediting him. Talbot escaped into hiding and had Jones kidnapped out of retaliation. Hulk then rescued Jones.

Samuel Sterns told Banner that the army had stolen his equipment needed to cure Banner. Hulk confronted the army and recovered Sterns' Particle Infusion Chamber, special gamma radiation solution, and Energy Field Stabilizer. Jones found more stolen equipment, so Hulk recovered the chemicals which were meant to improve soldiers' abilities.[1]

Lightning Satellite[]

Enclave Satellite

The Lightning Satellite crashes into Central Park

Meanwhile, the Enclave grew increasingly frustrated with Hulk interfering in their activities. They increased the earthquakes in New York City, but Rick Jones was able to track down the source and Hulk stopped them. The Enclave was then unsuccessfully in targeting Hulk with their Siege Turrets. The Enclave then used their Lightning Satellite to attack Hulk, which Jones helped track. Hulk found the satellite dish that controlled the Lightning Satellite and destroyed it, causing the satellite itself to crash into Central Park. Hulk destroyed the satellite.[1]

Battle at Culver University[]

Bruce Banner is reunited with Betty Ross

Samuel Sterns needed the data from the original experiment that transformed Banner into Hulk. Meanwhile, Thaddeus Ross had Emil Blonsky injected with a serum from the same project, giving him enhanced space. Banner went to Culver University and reunited with Betty Ross, who had saved a copy of the data from the experiment.

Hulk/Enclave Attacks is attacked by the military

Banner suddenly found himself surrounded by the United States military, including Blonsky. Betty tried to stop Thaddeus from attacking, but Thaddeus refused to listen and had her restrained. Banner became enraged by this and transformed into Hulk, attacking the soldiers. Hulk destroyed every army deployment point at the university and fought Blonsky with his newfound strength. Hulk defeated Blonsky and destroyed the helicopters which were attacking him. One helicopter crashed near Betty, but Hulk saved her and left with her. Thaddeus then ordered medical treatment for Blonsky.[1]

A Rocky Alliance[]

"I guess the enemy of my enemy is the lesser of two evils."
Bruce Banner to Rick Jones[src]

Bruce Banner and Betty Ross returned to New York City. Ross told Banner that Thaddeus Ross intended to attack a Paragon Corporation building and asked Banner to protect him. Banner agreed, and Hulk went to attack the Enclave. Ross saw Banner and declared him to be a target of opportunity, prompting both the military and Enclave to attack him. Hulk managed to defeat both sides and destroyed the Paragon Corporation building.

F-Pod

An F-POD is targeted by Hulk and a Hulkbuster

The Enclave developed a plan to steal the Stark Industries-designed armors worn by the military's Hulkbusters, which Rick Jones heard about. Hulk found that the Enclave had frozen the Hulkbuster armors, trapping the soldiers inside. Hulk fought off the Barbaria and Enclave soldiers, but left as the military appeared to provide backup for the Hulkbusters. As Banner deliberated on whether to choose a side in the fight between the army and the Enclave, Hulk came across a Hulkbuster, who asked for help destroying an Enclave F-POD. Hulk destroyed the armor, and the soldier promised not to mention Hulk when writing an incident report.

Talbot death

Glenn Talbot is killed

Glenn Talbot attempted to move an experimental weapon, but Hulk managed to steal the weapon. Talbot took his soldiers, including a Hulkbuster, to recover the weapon. Hulk and the Hulkbuster fought, but Betty Ross broke up the fight by telling the Hulkbuster who her father was. Talbot was cornered by the military, so Hulk went to end their conflict. However, Talbot donned a Hulkbuster armor himself which was powered by a nuclear reactor which threatened to blow up New York City, including Hulk. However, Hulk threw the armor into the air so that the explosion only killed Talbot.[1]

Duel of Harlem[]

Emil Blonsky forces Samuel Sterns to make him stronger

"I think we've nailed it. But... there's always a chance this could kill you."
"Trust me... if it doesn't work, I'm better off dead."
Samuel Sterns and Bruce Banner[src]

Hulk recovered the Genetic Simulator for Samuel Sterns. Sterns developed a cure and went with Hulk to use it against the Enclave Bio-Weapon, proving that it worked. They returned to Empire State University, where Sterns prepared the cure for Banner. They discussed the potential implications before finally curing him. However, the military showed up just then and arrested Banner and Betty Ross. Meanwhile, Emil Blonsky entered Empire State University and forced Sterns to make him like Hulk, turning Blonsky into Abomination.

Abomination began attacking the streets of Harlem, which Banner, Ross, and the military noticed from the helicopter they were in. Against Thaddeus Ross' orders and Betty's pleas, Banner jumped out of the helicopter and crashed into a building, triggering a transformation into Hulk. Hulk fought Abomination and managed to overpower and kill him. Hulk called for Betty and left the area. He then took down several Enclave facilities, ending their reign over New York City.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • This universe's version of Iron Man was intended to appear in The Incredible Hulk, and even appeared in concept art for the game. In the scene, Stark would have helped the military fight Hulk.[5] Iron Man was ultimately left out of the game, but Stephen Stanton was still credited in the role.[6]
  • Approximately 85 percent of Manhattan in the Enclave Attacks universe is a recreation of Manhattan from the real world.[7]
