"I doubt Hank ever mentioned my father; why would he? Elihas Starr. They were colleagues at S.H.I.E.L.D., quantum research. Until my father dared to disagree with The Great Hank Pym. You had him fired, oh, and discredited for good measure."
Ava Starr[src]

Elihas Starr was a S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist who had worked with Hank Pym and Bill Foster on quantum research until Pym had him fired and discredited. Starr moved to Argentina with his wife Catherine and their daughter Ava, continuing with his research until he and his wife were accidentally killed during a quantum experiment that caused Ava's unstable state.

This is an in-depth biography of Elihas Starr. For an abridged overview, see Marvel Database's article on the same character.

Early Life[]

S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent[]

When Starr was an adult, he joined S.H.I.E.L.D. and married Catherine. The two then had a daughter, Ava.[1]

Quantum Research[]

Fired by Hank Pym[]

During his time as an agent, Starr worked with Hank Pym and Bill Foster to harness the powers of the Quantum Realm. He wanted more and plotted to steal Pym's plans to work on the Quantum Realm. However, Pym found out and fired and discredited him, forcing Starr and his family to go into hiding and moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina.[1]

Confronted by Ant-Man and Wasp[]

"We wouldn't be here if you hadn't shut me out, Hank, but god forbid Dr. Henry Pym ever listen to somebody else!"
"So that's your excuse for being a traitor?"
―Elihas Starr and Hank Pym[src]

Sometime later, Starr managed to recreate Pym's Quantum Realm plans. While working, he was tracked down by Pym and his wife, Janet van Dyne. Fleeing them, he ran to his facility and ordered his guards to take care of them. He then went to see about his device. Unfortunately, Starr was clearly not as smart or patient as Pym, as the device overloaded and threatened to explode. Starr ordered Catherine and Ava to flee, but Ava decided to stay with her father, as she did not want him to be alone. Catherine came back to grab her, but it was too late. Starr and Catherine perished in the explosion.[1]

Legacy[]

Ava's Instability[]

"My father tried to continue his research on his own, desperate to restore his name. So, he took risks. Too many, until something went wrong. He told us to run. I could tell he was scared. I didn't want him to be alone. When I woke up, my parents were dead. I wasn't so lucky."
Ava Starr[src]

Starr's research would have lethal consequences on his daughter, Ava, as she had developed quantum imbalance that would not only lead her to live a hardened life as an assassin for S.H.I.E.L.D., but soon began killing her as well. Bill Foster, who was good friends with Starr and pitied him for his situation, took Ava in and became her father-figure in his absence. Although it was Starr who had inadvertently doomed her to the life she had to live, Ava bore her father no ill will and only resented Hank Pym for discrediting him. Pym himself, despite his fallout with Starr, never intended him or Ava to suffer their respective fates and felt guilt over what happened, even promising to help save Ava the right way.[1]

Abilities[]

  • Genius-Level Intellect: Starr worked with Hank Pym on Quantum Realm technology. However, he got greedy and tried to steal the information. Pym promptly kicked him out. Starr then went on to develop his own Quantum Realm plans, but was not as smart as Pym and his machine exploded, killing him and his wife.
  • Expert Scientist: Starr was a renowned S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist, alongside Hank Pym and Bill Foster. Together they worked on researching the Quantum Realm.
