The Einherjar are a military force on Asgard which protect the Asgardian Royal Family.

History[]

Mjølnir Ceremony[]

The Einherjar watched as Odin declared that only people who were worthy would be able to wield the power of Mjølnir. Thor successfully took the hammer and shouted "For Asgard," which the Einherjar repeated as they celebrated Thor.[1]

Frost Giant Attack[]

The Einherjar guarded Odin as he look out over Asgard and the Bifrost Bridge. When the Frost Giants infiltrated Asgard, several Einherjar were sent to protect it. However, they were easily killed by the Frost Giants. Einherjar stood guard and fought as the Frost Giants attacked the city. Two Einherjar attempted to run across a bridge, but a Frost Giant blasted them and destroyed the bridge. Other soldiers fired a large gun at their enemies and tried to warn Thor that Frost Giants were coming, but the gun was destroyed and the soldiers were killed. Einherjar were being frozen by Forst Giants, but Thor managed to kill them and ordered them to defend Asgard.

Two members of the Einherjard joined Sif in meeting with Thor as he defeated a Frost Goliath. One was about to speak when Sif pushed him out of the way as the Frost Giant shot an icicle at him. The guards killed the Frost Giant while Thor rushed to Sif's side and she died. A group of Einherjar left the Royal Palace of Valaskjalf with Odin and Loki, where they watched as Thor and Odin argued whether to retaliate against the Frost Giants. Odin stated that no one will attack and retreated into the palace with the Einherjar, two of whom stayed behind to carry Sif into the palace.

Meanwhile, at the Rainbow Bridge, two Frost Giants were approached by a group of Einherjar, intending to defend Asgard. However, the Frost Giants easily killed them.[2]

Mangog's Attack[]

The Einherjar defended Asgard as Mangog arrived and started destroying statues, shouting for Asgard and Odin's honor. Mangog brought Frost Giants and Infernir to Asgard to aid his attack, and the Einherjar worked to fend them off, several getting frozen in the process. Thor killed the surrounding Jötuns, freeing the Einherjar. Thor and Loki made their plan to defend the city, and Thor told the Einherjar to defend the city as the gate closed behind them.

As Thor went to part of the city, he ordered the Einherjar to shoot down the Frost Giants that were attacking him. The Einherjar happily obeyed, excited at Thor's return. The Einherjar secured the area, but were threatened by Jötuns. Although some crumbled while frozen, Thor destroyed the Frost Goliath threatening them and unfroze the remaining Einherjar, telling them to defend their city.

The Einherjar stood guard as Thor and Odin shared responsibility for what had happened with the unleash of Mangog. The Einherjar then watched as the Vanir's souls were released from Mangog.[2]
